Tigers Rucking.

Rucking is overrated.

I'd suggest we give up trying to find a quality one.

Play with 4 midfielders in the middle. One can stand in the circle but not compete the ruck.

They can have their bloke jump and win the tap against nobody, but we'll have a 4 on 3 at ground level.

If they want to grab it out of the air, we'll have someone there to grab them straight away.

I wonder if there's a rule that says two players must compete for the bounce. Because what you said makes a whole heap of sense otherwise.

Been watching Simmo too long. He always went early, but I just wish Gus could keep his feet. For a big bloke he hits the dirt after a contest more times than not.

Yeah and keep his eye on the ball instead of his opponent at the centre bounce. Not sure if he is worried about body contact or just something he has got into a habit of doing, but it usually results in him completely misjudging the ball.

Simmonds is gone in my book, no contract extension for him, too slow and his skill errors when he has played this season have be woeful.

Pattison, he may also be on the cull list for end of season. Graham I doubt they will cut him loose this year, another year and see what develops.

Vickery, hmmm he needs a lot of work done on him physically, he needs to bulk up but he's young so he has time on his side, but he should be in the gym end of season with the aim to put on some weight before 2010 begins.

Browne is similar to Vickery.

Our experienced ruck stocks are non existent right now. As for Monkhouse being the ruck coach, I agree find a ruckman who's won a flag and is now retired to do the coaching aspect.

The Recruiting Department must be aware of just how much the lack of a quality ruck is hurting our midfield players, perhaps they will go for another young ruck in the draft, who know's they may even (god forbid) try to draft one in via a trade with another club (somehow I can't see that one working).

And then the opposition get wise and their ruckman just spikes it forward 15-20m, nullifying the advantage of numbers.

Like it or not, ruckman are still essential.

And hence my application for the coaching job was ignored.

Outcoached in 2 minutes.

Nat Caruso (~185cms) did alright as a stand in ruckman for Coburg, he simply ran and jumped to force a contest (and stop the opposing ruckman doing the afore-mentioned spike). Tuck could perhaps do the same role for Richmond. It's not a long term strategy by any means, but it could work for 5 minutes a quarter if you only had one ruckman.

But you still need at least one decent ruckman, in my opinion. It'd be perfect if we had another tallish player who could play forward while the first ruckman is doing his business, then takeover for a little bit almost as your 4th midfielder...Vickery perhaps, or even Polak who moves alright for a big fella, should he survive the cull.

Or we could just trade for Dean Cox...
