Tigers draft a couch potato

No disrespect meant to Clokey, but ain't it sad that he became the best outcome of all of those. Wheren't there big things expected of Jackson. An he looked Ok momentarily - until the first cheque was banked perhaps................

Mark Trewella was a good mate of mine. :-[

lol at Strawbs O'Dyer.I reckon he was Jimbobs favourite.

Yes who could forget Greg Champions brilliant rendition of Bruce Springsteen's I'm On Fire substituting big strawbs.

Note also Paul Dimattina went on to have a reasonable career.

How did the numbers work. Was our first pick at 49? Or did the numbering commence after the other drafts.

So who was the GENIUS recruiting manager of that era?????????????????

It was the dynamic duo of Doug Vickers and his able ally, Brian Waldron

All very well to look at these picks and laugh, but all clubs in that era made major blunders. The system wasn't anything like it is now. Go and have a look at what other clubs drafted in those years. We were not on our own I can assure you. You will find the info on the AFL site under national draft.

I'm more interested in Richmond's history jabba and only posted what was written about Richmond in the Inside Sport article because this is a Richmond discussion forum.

The article is a story of our history over the past 20 years or so. It's not exactly a success story. Maybe other teams were similar but they simply don't interest me.

Rosy, understand what you are saying but the initial post has created discussion and we need to put things into perspective. In those days the draft was hit and miss for most clubs and we were no different. I too am only interested in Richmond, but am an avid follower of football, so if posters want to take a whack at someone from the past they should check the facts.

On the topic of draft picks though the article also says  "In '91 the Tigers' seven draft picks failed to play a single game between them.  They finished second last.  The club was broke."

Does anyone know who the 7 picks were?  I'm just wondering if they bombed out or went on to successful careers.

I looked them up.

1991 Pre-Seas Richmond 4 Mark Trewella
1991 Mid-Seas Richmond 5 Athos Hrysoulakis
1991 Pre-Seas Richmond 10 Andrew Underwood
1991 Mid-Seas Richmond 18 Shane Fell
1991 Pre-Seas Richmond 27 John Mrakov
1991 Pre-Seas Richmond 41 David Cloke

1991 National Richmond 49 Todd Hawes
1991 National Richmond 51 Shaun Brooker
1991 National Richmond 55 Glen Hoffman
1991 National Richmond 66 Nick Roney
1991 National Richmond 77 Jay Burton
1991 National Richmond 85 John Kennedy
1991 National Richmond 89 Paul Dimattina

1991 National Richmond Trade Todd Breman
1991 National Richmond Trade Stevan Jackson
1991 National Richmond Trade Steven O'Dwyer

I'm surprised you stopped there Rosy...
Had you continued this information for the years between 95 - 99, your information would have looked like a failed Exam paper!

Is that right Rosie

All of those picks in 1991 bar Dimattina were all delisted by March
They didn't even start a season with us!!!!
