Thoroughbred racing

Cup Day is really the only day I use the app seriously, and Boxing Day at the cricket (not happening this year). Otherwise I'll go to the track two or three times a year and take my pick of the odds.

SEN was spruiking Betfair heavily on Sunday when I went for a drive. They made mention of the TAB SP's being well under best fluc for Saturday's winners. Does Betfair still take the lot or are they now compelled to contribute something to the industry?

For me the thing to come out of 2020 is learning about what I can go without. If Gil's not careful and insists on trimming quarters, he just might forfeit my attendance at games.
Betfair definitely contribute to the industry. Betfair odds or SP is nearly always higher than everyone else - they are great for backing longer prices because you will get 50s on a 25s shot. But they do deduct a commission so the published stats are a little misleading.

Wasn't crushed on inside rail 22nd. Missed the start and Willo (as he does) decided he still wanted to go forward so worked around them to get outside the leader and then poured the pressure on (Fabric and the leader finished second last and last). Had no hope after they had gone 300m. And the stablemate and second favourite wasn't good enough to take advantage of the solid pace, not that I am suggesting anything untoward.

My Pendant, on the other hand was ridden by Jamie Kah, sat back just off the pace and basically sat there doing no work until about the 500m when J Kah decided to run into the back of every horse she could find, until 50m to go when she got clear by which time there was no point in trying as the horse had literally bolted! Did read her comment re Prince of Arran with a wry grin - unlucky. Also, go and watch Tavidance in an earlier race (race 6 i think) ridden again by J Kah - still hasn't seen daylight which takes some doing given the wide expanses of the Flemington straight. That means at least 3 of her rides yesterday were extremely unlucky ...... bit of a theme? And yes I am talking through my pocket but by venting I get some return for my $ - unlike my punting yesterday.

Back to watch a replay of the GF - nothing unlucky about that.

I feel your pain T44 on MP. But it happens - watch Joviality. I think in the Cup there wasn't a lot she could do.

That proves I was several cans too many into the day ..... J Kah tO quote another racing identity might have gone down media street a little far pre Cup Day.

Agree JB but 3 rides in 4 races all unlucky???????? Can forgive an unlucky ride, 2 ..... at a stretch but to continually do the same thing and expect a different result is insanity isn't it?

Like Indiana Lily (race 7 no 12) at Flemington today for a bit of value.

Good punting

I know I the old days the punters would stick the boots into bookies who wouldn't pay up, but if there was 79,000 at Flemington today would they have kicked the the TAB booth down when they couldn't bet at all. Fitting end to last major race day without a crowd. Well I am hpoing Dan will allow crowds back for Ballarat Cup day. Would be bizarre if I could stand in a bar with 50 others 5km from the track but not stand in the open with a few hundred or more. Or be in a bar sized marque with 50.

My Pendant in the last at Sandown Saturday. Has drawn the right sort of barrier for her (11) will be hoping to settle midfield not too wide. As long as the track is not too firm has an excellent each way chance. Currently $13 and $4 the place. Good value if you can wait that long. Fingers crossed she can get black type (not that it matters that much to me) but means she finishes first 3.

All care, no responsibility!

I assume you were on those Jamie Kah winners today T44!

Would you believe I backed her in one other race - the aptly named Horrifying in the Sandown Guineas - and it was a truly horrific ride.
My Pendant - she didn’t have much choice to go back but did get held up for a short while when she let the winner go around her. Don’t think she would have beaten the winner anyway. J Kah said might have been interesting - guess we will never know. Was backed in to start $5 so the early $4 a place was still a nice finish.

Is anyone having Special K at Ascot?
I'm having Special K with full cream milk for breakfast.
Special K had 2 gallons of lactose free, low fat milk for his breakfast.

I've got the other Special K today - Kay Cee win and place in a Multi with Queensland in the State of Origin, have also got a 3 legger w&p with Pacodali in the Ballarat Cup.

And I can't lie, I have another one as well.

Lucks a fortune.

Even though I detest Bob Peters,

I think him and pike win the railway with inspirational girl.

I always have a bet on The Railway. Takes me back to my Kalgoorlie days. when I wasn't in the bush, I used to share an office with Keith Biggs, who was a bit of a Bob Peters back then.

anyone wants to back Kementari, I will hold all bets at 4 points over the best odds.

Outstandingly generous of you Easy to put your balls on the line here.

As we all know Kementari cannot!
