I have just worked out why we have been no good for the last 20 odd years.

It does not rain anymore.
Bring on the the big wet.

We played brilliant wet weather football today.
Our clearance players thrived and experienced heads prevailed.
Can't take too much from the win though as those conditions are rare as hen's teeth (unfortunately. ;D)
Determination alone under the Etihad roof next week won't get us a win against the skilful Aints.

Must say though I am loving these 4 quarter efforts.
The will is certainly there atm. :)

We won today, because we played better wet weather football than the Port.
We set up better than they did, we had better skills, did the team things and busted a gut for our mate. Wet weather or not we were bloody fantastic.

Spot on Mappa

The game was played at their level. Get ball, Kick LONG!

Class shone through with clean skills and pick ups (eg: Cotchin, Deledio)

Martin was great, but has a very common trait of looking to run at an opponent and fend off. Its getting him unstuck a few times, his not playing against juniors anymore and i think needs some good coaching advice about other ways to get out of a pack.

Don't worry about this my friend ..... your at should be a through and this is more commony known as the maori sidestep.

Our boy will be running over opposition taggers Lomu style before we know ....... and won't we love it!!!!! :clap :clap

Gutsy wet weather football under extreme conditions. The win was great and gets the monkey off our back, next week will be perfect fast conditions, we'll see what we have learnt.

This has got me thinking. Maybe we are the wet weather specialists. Below are some of our memorable wins in the slush:

* 1989 - v Brisbane Bears at the G

*1995 - v Hawthorn at Waverley kicking 4.16.40 to 5.4.34

* 1999 v Adelaide at AAMI Stadium

* 2003 V Frem at the G

Ahh the memories.

Yes, I remember that games, would have been mid noughties, I remember Tambling played and took a ripping wet weather speccy & I think it was also the day Newman broke his leg.

There was indeed. We were big underdogs. Would have been about '04. Chris Newman broke his leg trying to kick the ball of the ground at the same time as Leon Davis.

Also I remember a game against the Eagles in WA. I have an image in my head of Peter Wilson playing for us. Maybe '89??

Perhaps there are some fire hydrants in the stadium somewhere we can set off all at once

The much maligned Andrew Krakouer was at times amazing in the wet - especially at the G :clap

Can't recall the exact games - but I remember he shined :)

I reckon Newman broke his leg in 2005, same year as Brown.

The wet weather dragged the other team down to our level, where we beat them comprehensively with experience.

After a couple of seasons in the AFL, playing in dry weather on picture postcard ovals like the MCG, not many of these footballers can remember how to work hard and beat a more skilful opponent through determination. They just depend on those pesky silky skills that they all seem to have. Our guys are the experts at making up for lack of skill with heart, just like in the old days of Rough Robbie McGhie, Balmey and Ricky McLean.

Bring on the rain and the sprinklers, I say!

The next time we goto the footy, maybe each and every Tiger fan who attends should arrive early with a bag of mud, add water and chuck it at the field before the game starts.
