The I ❤️ Collingwood thread.

Not sure if it’s a Collingwood thing, however I saw a vid with Cal Moore training with De Goey

The issue with Collingwood is they don't like losing player's to other clubs. Period.
They're the GWS of Victoria, they resign their own player's on huge deals to keep them.
Elliott was offered 500k to go to Brisbane, instead of just overing him 350-400 to stay put, they matched the offer and he stayed.
Cox was on the verge of going to Essendon, so they resign him with an option of a 2nd year at unbelievable numbers.
Phillips just played in the GF, he played 40+ games in a row. So they give him a incentive based contract based on how many games he plays in the season.
He torched them, he played all 23 games last year and was owed 600k.
I reckon a 1st yr Accountant student would've been able to see the shiit they were getting themselves into.
But its over now. Thanks to hawthorn, North Melbourne and Footscary they helped Collingwood free up close to 2 million dollars. if they finally get Beams off the books, they will back in the black and singing.
If they come out and have a good start to the season (They usually do) the liitle Collingwood supporters will forget this ever happened.
I see Collingwood as big winners in the trade period.
It allows them to Reset.
Good analysis. That is clearly the plan.

The query is whether they have addressed the root cause of their cultural and player ethos issues or will these problems continue to dog them.

This could rip the heart out of the club as it did St Kilda post '12 & Bombers in the early 00's. You could mount the case those 2 Clubs have still not fully recovered.

Nothing wrong with a reset unless you implement it like the pies did.

Everyone is still laughing at the pies except their supporters who are still in the shock phase of grief, wait till they get to the angry stage.

Add to the way they finished their season, as someone else said on this thread, something is now broken with that club and maybe some players got wind of what was going to happen.

That all sounds pretty good Zips, Figgy is still their coach though.

Agree, he is there biggest issue.
They have enough players to be more consistent, but they aren't.
They can beat WC in Perth but lose to Freo at the G a week later.
He can't keep them up.
They start seasons like they will win the flag by 10 goals, but mid way through seasons they drop there bundle. Its happened nearly every year Buckley has had them
Freeing up 2 million and if they can get beams off the books they could easily go into next years free agency period with 1-1.3 mill available to get a free agent.
The problem is Buckley can't coach and keep them up for a 22 weeks season.

If they have a poor year next year and miss the finals I dont think they'll have the ability to bring in a real big name, they wont be attractive after all this BS has transpired.

This Trade Period has harmed the Collingwood Football Club, player managers wont forget this episode.

I think you are understating the issues they have had. To have to drop 4 players suggests that they were going to be hitting those levels in the next few years. If it was just $1m that was the issue then they would have only pushed Treloar and maybe Philips. Why sell Stephenson out for so little.

You are doing what their supporters are doing and assuming there is some grand plan. Remember before all of this, everyone was wondering how they were managing to fit all these players into their cap. We now know the answer, they couldn't.

Sam somebody on SEN just delivered a ten minute slapping to Collingwood. Covered every argument that’s been raised over the last week to ten days. How they’ve been pissing on the members backs and telling them it’s raining, why trade Treloar to another Melbourne club if you were worried about him being away from his partner. Why stuff up the salary cap so bad then both deny that it happened and at the same time tell the supporters that they wouldn’t understand how the draft system worked. It was pure gold. Apparently his partner is a 19 year pie member and her family more so he was relating it to what he was hearing first hand. Unfortunately I had to get out of the car before I got to hear any calls.

Absolutely It does. Will damage their reputation in marketplace to attract players and don’t be shocked if more opt out when they get the chance. No good will with members left at all.

Lesson is, tell the truth to your members, don’t insult their intelligence. The entire football community knew the situation, the media was talking about it publicly, you couldn’t save face at this stage. They made it worse by staying quiet and have done nothing but make it even worse when they finally spoke by spewing lies and historical mistruths.

Generational shaping week.

CEO now coming out via a statement to members today that “salary cap” strain played a role in their decisions this week and without the change “we would be unable to actively pursue free agency options”.

The real stuffup was paying that sort of money to Treloar in the first instance. He's arguably a worse kick than Dangerfield.
I only really watch Dangerfield when he plays finals against us, so I cant comment on whether he is a good or bad kick, but yes they paid way too much for Treloar.

I reckon i could almost nearly feel a little sorry for the Pies, if they werent the Pies, with the flak they are getting for trading Stephenson.
Yes they overpaid, but my take is his attitude isnt great, and they reckon he hasnt improved because of it, but they cant really say that. so they got rid of him.
Treloar and Phillips on the other hand they just over rated and over paid.
