Collingwood star Jordan De Goey charged with sexual assault
Foxfooty.com.au can reveal De Goey and another 24-year-old male have been charged in relation to an incident that is alleged to have taken place in 2015.
Victoria Police delivered the following statement to
foxfooty.com.au on Saturday.
“Detectives from the Sexual Crimes Squad have charged two people in relation to a reported sexual assault,” it read.
“Two 24-year-olds, one from Hampton East and one from Clematis, have both been charged with indecent assault and bailed to appear at Melbourne Magistrates‘ Court at a later date.
“The charges are in relation to an incident which is alleged to have occurred in Kew in 2015. As this matter is now before the court, police will not be making any further comment.”
Collingwood released a statement on Saturday afternoon.
“Collingwood player Jordan De Goey was today charged with one count of indecent assault relating to an historical incident in 2015,” the statement read.
“At Collingwood’s insistence, and with full co-operation from De Goey, the matter was investigated by the AFL Integrity Unit and Victoria Police in 2018. No charges were laid.
“De Goey will remain in the Collingwood football program while the legal process takes its course.
“Neither Collingwood nor De Goey is in a position to make further comment.”
The statements come a day after De Goey accumulated 21 disposals in Collingwood’s 15-point loss to Essendon at the MCG.
One of the AFL’s most recognisable players, De Goey has kicked 120 goals from 93 games.
He was drafted by Collingwood with Pick 5 in the 2014 national draft.
