Not that surprising is it? The "temperance" movement was about improving the lives of people through reduced alcoholism. Sounds pretty progressive. The problem with any ideology though is what happens when it gains power. It tends toward authoritarianism it would seem. It is one thing to promote a healthy lifesyle, quite another to mandate it.
It's interesting that they now supposedly champion legalising drugs. Socialist ideologies tend towards authoritianism sure.

Don't be an idiot. Plenty of ideologies tend to authoritarianism.

Always ask what religions do when they are strong, not when they are weak. (And what it is like to be an unbeliever under their control). What did a politically contolling Catholicism do? What is life like in Iran/Saudi Arabia/Indonesia?

Well you won't get a stronger advocate than yours truly when it comes to legalising drugs.

As for your second point... rather ironic considering the refugee crisis in the world today has brought out the worst in people. ie. fascist ideals (which is thankfully starting to be corrected somewhat).

which parties in Oz are more interested in getting involved in people's private business?
the so-called socialist leaning greens, sex party and labor or the conservatives such as the Libs, and Bernadi's party?

There's two ways to organise society. Socialism and capitalism. There are differing degrees of both but all societies can be categorised as socialist or capitalist. You either let individuals make decisions or you have god's representative/the emperor/the king/the politburo make the decisions. All the examples you have are of socialist societies.

I'd say they all are in differing ways. They are all socialist, as democracy is fundamentally socialist.

People who think are "two ways" to do anything lack imagination.

Probably another good time to mention the war on drugs eh?
