The Geelong Cants

Let’s get him. Throw everything at him. If MT is against it Merrett will be a superstar for us!

Starting to think that the only playper MT would support us trading in would be Dusty Martin....;)

Where does Merrett fit in? VFL?

I think they have a good mix of hard mature bodied midfielders and youth that have some speed and energy and they play a brand similar to ours which stacks up in finals.
I agree. Really impressed with the way they played in 2020. Clearly the 2nd best team of 2020 imo.

Beating them in Adelaide in the prelim was a massive effort by our guys, arguably our best win of the year.

Should’ve clarified, Zach Merrett is a free agent. Will cost nothing but cap space.

Still aint worth considering
Keep our salary cap for the younger Tigers coming through at that stage - Balta, Shai, Bakes and possibly Dow, Stack, Ross etc

thing with the ole cants gamble is that everything needs to go right for them just to get to top 4. Then its the best team on the day wins through too and takes home the Grail. Is their best 22 good enough? Im not so sure it is.

If they Lose

Danger
Hawkins
Cameron

for any large chunk of home and away they may miss top 4, possibly finals

Should they make top four and lose any of those above or

Selwood
Higgins
Biclav's
Guthrie
duncan

hard to see em beating the best of the best in a prelim or GF.

Lose multiple players from those groups for large chunks they will struggle I reckon.

Since they all nap in the arvo with blankets on their knees after a hot coco, they will need a load of love from the footy gods to get enough games out of the top end to cash in.

Look, its possible. I get their idea. But I hope and think it may backfire in 2021.

No doubt after that last roll of the dice it will come at a high cost in the future.

Stinks of desperation to me. That rarely pays off.

They may have got away with pumping old bodies into their team this year because of the longer breaks and shorter quarters.

They go into 2021 older yet again. They may well suffer a large fall from grace. Yes the games will be spaced further apart, but the riggors of a 322 game season when you are playing for 120 minutes i think will be far more taxing physically than the season they just experinced.

Those shorter quarters and longer breaks went dead against us grinding teams into the dirt.

Getting our hands on the cup this year was a remarcable achievement. When you look at the number of delistings and retirements at other clubs, it stands out how much more settled out list will be entering the 2021 season.

Cornes’s premiership favourite because of Cameron and a couple of 30+ year olds.
Have to laugh.
Why are Geelong favourites next season?
Remember that geelong lead the grand final by 22 pts in the second quarter.
(Okay, but they lost by 31, so there was a 53pt turn around. They were over run adn destroyed in the second half.)

But bring in Cameron and Higgins will amended that.
Seriously?

How do these clowns come up with this crap.

Look at the source. Kane Cornes. The man is a joke as a commentator or ‘expert observer’. He regularly opens his mouth without putting his brain in gear.

When Carlton had a very old team full of stars in 1995. David Parkin said he created a few basic rules and just let them play. He modestly has said they coached themselves.

Meanwhile I see Chris Scott doing the opposite. And over coaching and being negative with this list. Geelong need to play a more attacking positive brand of football that beats others by being more efficient and effective than any other team.

This. Our high pressure game will eventually unravel a possession style in a final.
Geelong will be thereabouts however as they will win plenty of games down at Kardinia park
