The new television season had a sense of déjà vu about it—the same old plots and characters with new names.
Saturday April 5, 1.45pm start. I make my way towards Etihad stadium, full of expectation. Bookmakers have the tigers long odd-on. It's early in the season and there is something brewing at the tigers. Yes, we bowed out of the previous years finals in ignominious fashion but we can mark that down to experience. It's a young list and a previous round win over the blues are a portent of the season ahead, the bulldogs merely another stepping stone on the path to atonement. Deledio will miss a rare game but the young bulldogs should be no match for a team set on improving their finals performance of the previous year.
Surprisingly, the bulldogs get a jump on the tigers. Youthful enthusiasm I ponder. Not to worry, class will prevail. The tigers are dominating most of the stats and it's only a matter of time before the direct approach of the previous week is imposed by the tigers. The crowd is restless. Half-time. Dogs lead and much of the chatter is about the tigers losing "another" game they should win. Nervous nellies I think, this is DIFFERENT. There's a steel in this team. Chimp/Bull/Brandy/Rance - young guns on the up still. Griff about to impose himself on the comp. Jack the most creative forward in the comp. Yes, we could make some improvements in some areas but just you watch the 2nd half I think.
The tigers make a run, HA! I think, told ya. Jack looks likely to impose himself and win the game............

0/3. That is my daughter's strike rate at Richmond games. Against Melbourne in 2014. That will be a good way to indoctrinate her into the cult of the Tigers. Embarrassing loss. Dreamtime 2014. A spectacular event to enthrall a child. Worst game (ever?). The Dogs. Another game that we go in favourites, another loss. To top it off her favourite player was a late withdrawal from the side. In hindsight these are probably important life lessons for the nascent Tigers fan. She's still onboard, but without a bellow of Yellow & Black at the conclusion of the game, she doesn't really
understand yet. Oh well, there's always another match.
Rarely do you see such a standout performance in such a poor showing. Everyone's top vote this round was for the superb Alex Rance. Alas, a full back will struggle to win a game off his own boot in isolation. Hopefully the boys can put on a better showing in Queensland this Saturday!
Carn' the Tiges!
