So the AFL revealed the details of the Tasmanian AFL Team report. Yes, Tasmanian should have a team but it should be a relocated Team and not a new 19th Team. I see the merits of it, looking at how the Swans and Lions are fairly well established vs the Giants & Suns.

But I can see Tasmanians and #lolNorf supporters reacting strongly against that proposal.

Thoughts?

Colin Carter's preference is a 19th team.

The AFL's preferences, in order, are:

1. relocation;
2. joint venture (a Melbourne club playing all their home games in Tasmania);
3. 19th team.

McLachlan also guaranteed the Suns wouldn't be moving, so that leaves North, Hawthorn and St Kilda.

Seeing as the AFL can't actually force a club to relocate, this report has basically just been a waste of time. If the AFL use COVID-19 as an excuse, they should be directed to the money spent to bring in another 4 AFLW teams.

The Tasmanian government should tell Hawthorn and North to *smile* off and save their money if there's no 19th team.

*smile* me, they are deadset *smile*

19 teams, 18 rounds , 9 home, 9 away & reverse the following year, how easy would that be

They should have had a team 10 years ago.

That we had to wait all this time for such a startling revelation

I do find it a little funny that the biggest proponent of a Tassie team are Tasmaniams that are living on the mainland and couldn't get out of Tassie quick enough and I suspect have no intention of ever returning.

Tasmania deserve their own team, not one that gets sent there dragging and kicking.

Relocating North is a no brainer...irrelevant team in Melb but have some good history, good jumper, good mascot. As much as I'm wedded to The Maps, The Tassie Roos has a nice ring to it.

Looking forward to Caro continuing her #lolNorf to Tassie campaign.

Looking forward to Caro continuing her #lolNorf to Tassie campaign.

She's done some great dogged reporting in recent years, where she just wouldn't give up until the result was what she initially reported (Hird/Essendon, Clarkson/Kennett). If she gets Norf to Tasmania it will be her magnum opus.

Should be a new team or the Suns.

Here's the reasoning:
1/ What fans the Suns actually have are mostly second team types. And there aren't many of them. They don't show up to games.
I would suggest most teams eclipse them for attendance at their home games.

2/ The Suns are a money pit. A dead man walking. The only reason they have survived this long, where every other professional sporting team has failed on the Goldy, is the AFL throwing wads of money at them. That can't continue indefinitely.

3/ Nobody would really care if the Suns went somewhere else. They suck on the field. They suck off the field. Perennial no hopers - Like North pre '73.

4/ It would be unfair on the fans of an established Club with history and a long community connection to relocate. Fitzroy and South Melbourne becoming defunct hurt people. They tried to kill us off once. We remember. As do the old 'Roys and Bloods.

5/ A truly Tassie Team, as number 19, could allow the AFL to shorten the season to 18 games - I am not an advocate of a shorter season - and fix the corrupt "fix-ture" as it currently stands.

Two more teams = 90 more list spots = greater dilution of talent = lower quality football

Agree Tommy.
Can’t see how a start up club will work. Just my thoughts.
It will have to be a relocated team.
Chances of North or St Kilda ( who some are calling for today ) is unlikely but drums will start beating .

AFL again will have to throw big $ and huge incentive $ if an established club to relocate to Tasmania.

Tasmania has supplied the Tigers and others with some wonderful great players.

Can’t see how a start Tasmanian side will survive long term and be able to retain and entice young kids.

More $ from well run successfully thrown here when it should have been done long time ago. GCS & GWS have drained huge funds.

This will be a long term investment as the above have been so a relocated club (18 team competition retained ) not a 19 th team is what the AFL will try to do to entice someone.

Maybe bring in a Tasmanian VFL side. I know ( think ) they once had one. Am I correct?

An immediate answer is unfair and am I right in saying 14/18 clubs have to agree to it.

Covid has hit the AFL & clubs.

This is a hard call.

Will PRE Tasmanians that follow Richmond, stop following the Tiges and start following the Tassie Roos or whatever they are going to be if they start up ?

Or once a Tige forever a Tige ?

I'm less interested in getting a Tasmanian team, and more interested in getting rid of North Melbourne. They are just a pointless, vacuous, waste of time, energy and resources.
