Talking Politics

Unbelievable.

I thought Labor were no chance. At the Federal election Labor got a 7.6% swing to them at a time when the Libs leader was incredibly unpopular and the local member was a complete liability. The Libs seemed to nominate a decent enough candidate and it is a by-election.

The Libs are in deep sh!t.

If Labor can make headway in Queensland the Libs will be completely uncompetitive.

DS
The Libs just don't get it, if the penny doesn't drop soon they are a real chance of becoming irrelevant. The Libs now have just 2 sitting members in metropolitan Melbourne. The Nationals are close to becoming the dominant Conservative party.

How long until Dutton gets tapped on the shoulder?

Turned on sky news to hear what spin they could put on it. Evidently it was a dirty campaign run by Labor.
No mention that maybe the electorate is rejecting the Liberal Party.
They continue to be in denial
Yes. It was dirty. They flooded Aston with pictures of Duttons head.

Abbott is stupid enough to think that he can become Prime Minister again.......actually he's probably a better chance than Dutton. I wonder whether he would give Dutton a Knighthood.

Bravo Dutton bravo.............your strategy is going gang busters, your outdated policies are appealing to less and less voters.

"Labor is likely to win seat of Aston as counting counting in the by-election.
It’s the first time in 100 years the sitting government has won a seat from the opposition during by-election
."

Tigerman What day is it today ? April Fools Day .

Just looked at the results of the last couple of elections in Aston, the change is huge:

2019 Election:
Primary Votes: Lib: 54.69%; ALP: 29.81%
2 Party Preferred: Lib: 60.13%; ALP: 39.87%

2022 Election:
Primary Votes: Lib: 43.05%; ALP: 32.55%
2 Party Preferred: Lib: 52.81%; ALP: 47.19%

2023 By-Election - incomplete result 11.20pm election night:
Primary Votes: Lib: 38.23%; ALP: 41.07%
2 Party Preferred: Lib: 45.73%; ALP: 54.27%

Since the 2019 election the Libs have lost 16% in their primary vote, that is massive and in what is a fairly conservative area.

Meanwhile the ALP primary vote has risen just over 11%.

The Greens improved at the election but have gone backwards tonight: 2019: 8.86%; 2022: 12.08% and tonight so far: 10.60%.

Interestingly the combined primary vote of the 2 major parties fell in the 2022 general election, from 84.50% to 75.60% but has risen on the back of ALP primary votes in this by election to 79.30% despite the Lib primary vote dropping.

By-elections can throw up some strange results, and it looks like a fairly low turnout by Australian standards, the AEC is currently saying 71.09% but not sure how they calculate that before all the votes are counted. Well over 90% in last 2 general elections.

There are so many factors here.

Aston has a high rate of voters with Chinese heritage.

Deeming and her extremist views.

The Liberal candidate drafted in.

Dutton is hated here more than Morrison.

Tudge and Robodebt.

But one thing people don't talk about is that us Victorians have long memories. And right now, we are taking our revenge on the people who 5hat on us during the pandemic.

Tudge was a federal liability but a local asset in Aston. He retained his seat because of he was highly visible and active in the electorate, and Labor didn't run much of a campaign.

*smile* it's beautiful watching these shiteaters become irrelevant. Hoist on their own retard. Dregs. Yesterday's mediocrities.

Another victory for the Banshees in Aston today.

Meanwhile Bengals still reckons Dan and Albo are "crashing". Any more crashing and the LNP will have no seats left at all, but hey, sucks to be a sad old boomer eh Benghazi...

The only downside is that Dutton is probably done... Mr Potato Head, we hardly knew you
You sound like a fun person Comrade Ant,spending your Saturday night worrying about a by election
Libs where always up against it here,a new candidate who only got selected a few months ago ,and has just moved into the area.
I think what you will find that the honeymoon for Labor will be over soon at Federal level.
Spin can only take you so far .
As for Comrade Andrews the honeymoon is well and truly over, the money pit has turned into mud,

Chinese heritage so what they are Australian's now,and the way the Chinese Government have behaved towards Australia should not be tolerated ,and doing deals with a country who has terrible human rights violations ,the kind of violations that most Australians are SUPPOSE to be against ,it all smells of HYPOCRISY .
Not to mention a threat to our countries security .

Then you have Comrade Ping Pong, who is friends with Putin, who has overtaken him for violations on humanity ,a vicious cycle that Australia needs to break away from

The Libs candidate has not moved into the electorate, she still lives in Brunswick, was only going to move IF she won the by election.

The Libs are on the nose big time, that's why they lost. Nothing could be more obvious after this result.

She moved .
Lets see what the great Labor/Greens policies give us over the next couple of year's ,and then we will see who's on the nose .

The Libs thought they were being clever by putting up a non-white female candidate. Pity she was still a classic out of touch, silver-spoon tosser.

Libs up against it? :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

:rotfl2:rotfl2:rotfl2:rotfl2

Give me a break.

They had already lost 7% at the general election and this was a by-election . . . and they lost another 7%.

They should not have lost this seat, it is as simple as that.

You might not realise this but the Libs certainly do, the question is what are they going to do about it? The problem is that their ideology is on the nose, and with good reason, it delivers for the rich and sucks the life out of everyone else. Pity the ALP are little better.

As for this notion that the right will somehow make a comeback, the evidence is pointing in the opposite direction.

The agenda has been pushed to the right for the last few decades and this means that what were once fairly centrist conservative parties have become hard right fundamentalists. The agenda needs to shift and it looks like the people are ahead of the major parties. Although I very much doubt that the Libs will fall in a heap like the United Australia Party did back in the 1940s, they are currently in a very bad position.

Ahahaha the party in power federal winning a byelection HAD NOT BEEN DONE IN 100 YEARS and you reckon "the Libs were up against it" in a safe liberal seat.

The level of self-delusion you display is quite amazing Benghazi.

Comrade Andrews has been in power for over 3000 days and you reckon the honeymoon is finally over? You really seem to be up on current events old mate
