Steve Hocking

I heard Craig Jennings on Crunch Time the weekend before last describe SHocking as "creative". But Jennings is a dope. The Andy Maher of the coaching world - says what he thinks someone who knows what they're talking about would say. Like Maher, the problem with that for him is he's a dummy.

I hope there’s a major investigation into this frauds handling of his role and then walking back to the cats , this stinks as much as the balls up of a job he did at the AFL
Astounding that he was not required to take gardening leave for at least a year. The conflict of interest is infuriating.

I like the take of Redford that Steve Hocking is a corporate animal. And the implication that Steve is a Peter Principle battler.

Steve never did a single thing that was demonstrably illogical. At the time. And he did increase revenue. He was always looking to increase revenue. (And fair enough ever in COVID.)

Remember all that denial over the lightbulbs cutting the players? Yeah, the bulbs cut the players. But Steve got more marketing dollars. And Ghoul McLachlan nodded.

Steve brought in the the women's? All the other codes had done that. Steve brought in the VARS? All the other codes had done that.

Steve has never had an idea in his life. He's a Peter Principle battler.

Hey, remember the time brilliant ideas man Steve promised to increase the number of Dusty moments? And then moved to Geelong? He was not corrupt. He was trying his best.

Good news. Steve was never corrupt. He was just a battler. And now he runs Geelong. Not the rules.

Plodder.
Loving your work Jack...................Ghoul McLachlan :rotfl1

I've decided he's like the bloke who breaks into your house when you're asleep..... steals your family jewels..... then prior to slinking off into the night..... takes a dump in your wardrobe leaving a stench which will linger forever!

Fake news. It was Richmond that destroyed scoring and are the antithesis of what AFL should represent. Richmond must be stopped before they destroy football.

I know we bag Hocking for what his meddling has done to the game but my question is, why have all the other teams managed to adapt to the changes but the Tigers haven't?

Brown on the commentary mentioned the stand rule being brought in to counter Richmond. Can’t remember his exacted words but effectively said good decision. *smile* me can you image the uproar if the ALF brought in a rule to counter another teams one wood? That short passing game in the first half by North was a terrible spectacle.

Because a number of other factors combined to magnify the damage done by the rule changes.

Was told years ago that Hocking was a shoe in for CEO of Geelong and still the AFL allowed him to target Richmond .
A good friend of Hocking told me this many times with Hocking fully in the know that he was back at Geelong while inventing this rule.

Jonathan Brown said as a matter of fact in yesterdays telecast that the AFL brought in the stand rule to counter Richmond. It's common knowledge to all that a rule change was brought in to disadvantage one particular team.

probably because all the other teams havnt spent 10 years recruiting for a particular game style (Fast, Tough, Big Motor, kicking negotiable). and 5 years mastering it.

and the rule changes have turned it into netball, where you have to move the ball with precision, slowly.

Hardwick has always said 'grass is your friend'.

the rule was designed (kudos) to hinder our high pressure, territory, speed, endurance, chaos,

666 was bought in to stop us pushing numbers at the ball,

bench rotations were bought in to stop us running.

all in favour of ball control. slow, methodically, bruise free, untiring.

It favours the game that Buckley invented, then Scott mastered, and dominated us with for a half in the 2020 GF.

I can't speak for Melbourne or Dogs, I havnt watched them enough to understand how they play.

But in term of your question

'how did other teams manage to adapt'?

Geelong didnt adapt to the rules, the rules adapted to them.

I read a poster on Facebook description of Shocking as the worst thing in AFL since Meatloaf. So true. New nickname for him should be Meatloaf.

Most opponents use the long kickout to the wing against us as we're a short team. We usually chip to the back pocket. It has *smile* crucified us.
The kick in rule is an embarrassment. Watching it at local level and junior footy is even worse.
