I read somewhere today that Sportsbet have paid out clients who backed us to win the wooden spoon this year already. That's right, they reckon we are monites for it and have paid out now. Cost them about $100K.

Now obviously they could have left the money in the bank and earned some intest on it, so it is clearly a move designed to get some headlines.

But wouldn't it be delicious if we actually didn't win the spoon.

Yeah, I know, looks like a safe bet that we will.

Was talking to a mate earlier about this reality is when we play Adelaide we will probably be winless if Adelaide are to how good will it feel if we beat them Sportsbet would be shitting bricks.

us to beat adelaide in adelaide? :rofl

correct me if i'm wrong, but i believe the only time we have beaten them this century was that infamous "basketball crap" joke of a game

they also have richmond at $5 to not win a game this year. Pretty safe bet i reckon. Wonder what they would pay for richmond not to win a game for next year as well.

Intersting - how does that work?

Do they offer less than full payout value for early payment? And if so, do they stop laying Richmond on that bet?

Is this really true? No team has gone through winless ( i think, maybe University in1916 or something like that) and to pay out after rd 5 is crazy. We will win a game...maybe 3!

You mean the game where it took three and a half quarters for Adelaide to realise flooding the defensive 50 with 15 players wasn't going to win them the game?

------------

I think it's a pretty safe thing for Sbet to have paid out if it has in fact happened, whilst I think we have taken a step forward for the long term we've still taken a massive step back. We'll struggle to win a game.

TigerTim, Fitzroy did it in the 50's I think

There are no odds yet from sportsbet about the Tigers not winning a game in 2010. It will be available later this week. I will keep you guys posted.

Yep. University lossing streak was 51 games (Ouch!)

St Kilda come second with a 44 or 48 lossing streak.

I believe it is the full payment. They say they have accepted the risk of paying out early.

Its a marketing ploy, thats why they do it. They have paid out early before and been caught out, when they are caught out its even better publicity for them.

They are also banking on most of those that won to bet that money on something else.

Tigers are 10-1 against Freo this week on the TAB, 11.20 with Sportsbet

Depends if you believe the hype on Freo and believe the Tigers are 100% as bad of what we have been playing. I'm not firmly in either of these camps and believe we will win at least a few this year

10-1 is is manna from heaven against the boys in purple at any time. On principle alone, I am in

Thanks Ian, I stand corrected. Still, I think it's very premature and it's happened once or twice in 115 years of VFL/AFL. But if they think it works as a marketing ploy good on them.

Maybe they should pay out on losing bets as a marketing ploy. Would make some punters on PRE a fortune!
