Trampoline - Dan Millman

Hmmm... looks like my question was a bit too vague...
Yes... Trampolining's first world champ was crowned in 1964.

Not the answer I was looking for though.

If i can try again...

A ball sport decided its world champion for the first time in 1964.

Name the sport, and the first world champion.

Of course, there is another different debate as to if Trampolining (or other 'artistically judged' events such as diving, gymnastics, dressage etc) are actual SPORT, PASTIME or ART

... but i will leave that for another post.

Handball

Could have been the Irish

From answers.com...
"World Men's Handball Championship
The World Championship in team handball for men has been organized by the International Handball Federation since 1938."... won by Germany.

Golf, Arnold Palmer won the first world match play championship

Sorry jb... again noth the one i was looking for!

And, after much searching, I could fiing this website (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HSBC_World_Match_Play_Championship#Winners) that suggests... "The tournament was founded by Mark McCormack as a showcase for the players he managed. ... For its first forty years the tournament was an unofficial one, highly regarded by golf fans in Britain and many other countries outside the United States, popular with players, and happily coexisting with the PGA European Tour, at whose home course it is played, but not taken into account on an official tour money list, and offering no World Ranking Points."

Considering it an 'un-official' champoinship, i will need another answer.

Squash and .........ummm?

sorry can't pay that on this basis... "In January 1967 representatives from seven nations (Australia, Great Britain, Egypt, India, New Zealand, Pakistan and South Africa) met in London and formed the International Squash Rackets Federation. Later that year Australia hosted the first ISRF men's championships. In 1969 the U.S. and Canada were admitted, despite the different standard of play in North America. Five nations came to the world championships in South Africa in 1973; ..." [http://www.worldsquash.org/history1.html]

racquetball?

Not yet... think of bigger balls (err... not like that!)

for Racquetball... "The International Racquetball Federation [then the International Amateur Racquetball Federation/IARF] held its first World Congress and its first World Championships in 1981, attracting full teams from six countries."
WOW...6 countries... it is either a real world championship, or an American sport. :hihi
