Sports Quiz

I'm sticking with Bob Simpson. In his last ODI for Australia, against the West Indies in Castries, St Lucia on 12 April 1978 -- making his age 42 years and 68 days -- Simpson knocked one over the boundary on his way to 23 off 29 deliveries. In a rain-affected match, Australia made the 140 required with two wickets to spare.

Ready you are correct, apologies for not seeing your earlier post, I have been ripping a laundry apart on my holidays and time spent on PRE was not viewed favourably.

No worries BJ, although hard manual labour doesn't sound much of a holiday. ???

Right, Question:

WHO AM I?

A goalkeeper, I am perhaps Brentford's most famous ever player. This is because in my last game for the club, at Colchester in 1970, a dog ran on to the pitch and collided with me, leaving me to be stretchered off with a severe knee injury.

Not sure wether to laugh or cringe

Spare a thought for former Brentford goalie Chic Brodie, whose professional career was brought to an untimely end by a dog. The incident in question happened in a game against Colchester United in November 1970. The dog, a black-and-white terrier, had invaded the field of play a couple of minutes beforehand and was tearing around up-ending players and linesmen alike but the referee refused to bring a halt to proceedings. Just as Brentford's centre-half Peter Gelson played a back pass to his goalie, the mutt decided to chase the ball. Not expecting to see a dog on the pitch running towards him, Brodie kept his eye on the ball and as he bent down to scoop the ball up the energetic pooch leapt towards the keeper and sent him crashing to the ground. The ball span out for a corner, leaving Brodie writhing in agony on the floor with a shattered kneecap.

Chic Brodie is the man!

In another incident, against Millwall, a hand grenade was thrown into the goalmouth from the crowd but fortunately turned out to be a fake. A couple of years before that, at Lincoln, the goalposts inexplicably collapsed around him, but Chic was untouched.

The dog incident was captured on camera and turns up on TV from time to time.

TC: a question please!

Warwick, the City of Rose and Rodeo, has some of Queensland's finest old sandstone buildings. Australia's first rodeo was held here and you can visit the annual rodeo each October.

Known as the 'Rose and Rodeo City', Warwick hosts one of Australia's oldest and most famous rodeos each year in October. The Warwick Rodeo can trace its roots back to 1857 where records indicate the first professional buckjumping contest.

Your call, knowing Queenlanders there will be at least three towns claiming the distinction.

TC, I've helped you out (I think). I emailed Australia's Rodeo society, I'll see what answer they give back.

Hells Bells, my skills are limited to Google and Cricket, its sounds like this is getting serious.

is rodeo a sport tc? ::)

i go bush-diving into conifers (spelling?) sometimes, is that a sport too? it sure is fun!
