There been a lot of reasons made for SH performances this season: a birth, a death, new to the RFC game plan, adjusting to being first ruck, he,s mostly played forward for Carlton, he was recruited for his tap work.....

Maybe he's just not up to it?

Except he wasn't a new Dad when that excuse was given. The baby hadn't been born. Plenty of players have pregnant partners and new babies. Some even play in premierships. It's pretty poor if Megan being pregnant was the reason for Shaun's form this season. We need better mental strength than that.

In isolation no, but there were a few things happening at the same time. The impending fatherhood was one of them. Death of his father another, playing with a new team takes adjustment.

Let's not forget hie isn't married and his partner is a very high profile lady about 14 years his senior. I wonder if fatherhood was what he wanted at this stage of his life.

But the facts players and coaches have been known to kiss matches to be there for the birth of their kids should show that it is a very important and significant event that will have the mind wandering.

Whenever Hampson is on the ground the Tigers are essentially playing 17 vs 18. Not even a joke. And the way Vickery played particularly on the weekend, it was 16 vs 18.

That kind of speculation, and moral judgement, seems like an attempt to fit square pegs into round holes. Not married. Older partner. Unwanted pregnancy.

Think I'll just think Shaun's form hasn't been real crash hot without trying to manufacture reasons for it.

Yep, so he got Gale pregnant, big deal.

Even I could hit that sort of a target given half a chance.

Are you suggesting Streaker that Hampson should be focusing more on tapping on-field rather than off-field?

Wouldn't blame him on being distracted.

And this is how it must be. The facts are, he is showing and producing exactly what he did at Carlton.

This is nothing new or different. Yet again, we make the mistake of taking role players from other clubs and expecting them to be much more then they ever showed previously. Thats ok for low picks but wasting 2nd round picks on this strategy is terrible list management.

Blair Hartley believing his magic touch once too often. I'd rather have Orren as the backup and pick 32.

It's a thought I have. The other factors are fact though but you seem to want to ridicule the idea that impending fatherhood can play on a mans mind. Cherry pick what suits you if you want but the impending fatherhood, death of his father, new team, can all add up and have a negative impact. If you think that's manufacturing reasons then so be it, but expect the same answer whenever you ask the same question.

One of these 2 we could have got
Instead of hampson..jay kennedy harris pick 40
Will langford pick71

Rosy, I am not ashamed to say that I wasn't exactly firing on all cylinders in the lead up and after the birth of my daughter.
Just like many expectant mums. Some have "the glow" whilst some are hormonal dragons. Everyone is different.
I am not giving Shaun an excuse but by jeez he has been hit with a triple whammy.
Baby, death of a parent and playing for Richmond.
He is not a first choice ruckman but with big Ivan out he has become our first choice.

Hampson has been a spud his entire career. Everyone knows what he dished up at Carlton.

Why would anyone think he'd be any different with a Richmond jumper on?? It's pretty common knowledge that in the past 30 plus years most players get worse when the put a Richmond jumper on :p

A bit like Chaplain yet we payed overs for troy and in the scheme of things not a great deal for Shaun.
He is a backup on the other hand Troy is in the leadership group at the expense of a natural leader and "our general down back".
I know who deserves the blowtorch more.

They are both rubbish and it is an indictment on the club and recruiters that we target these sort of players. Really makes you wonder if they have any idea what they are doing.

At least Chaplin didn't cost us a second round draft pick. Small consolation though.

We believed our own hype that we could turn recycled players into footballers.
That bubble has well and truly burst.

good observation. I recall my wife was an absolute dragon in the lead up to both of my kids but what was really hard was the lack of sleep. Who knows what

Quote of the day from Finey on SEN "I hope Shaun Hampson is better at holding the baby than he did trying to take those marks yesterday" :D
