Rugby Union

I find this a little terrifying, given the recent results......

All Blacks 'need to improve'

Absolute shocker. I never thought I'd say it but Gregan's gotta go.

Bring back John Eales!!!

Gregan wasn't the problem I can assure you. A tight 5 who know what a scrum is would help.

Your right, he wasn't the problem in this particular test match TGN, but there have been plenty of awful performances recently that should also be looked at when judgeing whether he should still be playing let alone captaining the Wallabies. Just my opinion.

Mind you doing anything at the back of our scrum at the moment is horrendously difficult, so who knows.

Articles in todays paper here in Sydney, regarding the recruitment of John Mitchell, given his success with the All Blacks (bar one match), to help fix the scrum and rucking problems that we have at the moment.

http://www.dailytelegraph.news.com.au/story/0,20281,17241327-5001023,00.html A Kiwi may need to fix scrum

Also little side bar to all of this is the fact that while Jones has been publicly blaming the ARU for not establishing a "scum school" in the past, it was him who fired Andrew Blades as our forwards coach. He was a World Cup winning prop, with a great coaching record and is someone who should definately be looked at for a future forwards coaching role.

WALLABIES SQUAD
Chris Latham; Mark Gerrard, Lote Tuqiri, Morgan Turinui, Drew Mitchell; Mat Rogers, George Gregan (capt); George Smith, Phil Waugh, John Roe, Nathan Sharpe, Hugh McMeniman, David Fitter, Brendan Cannon, Greg Holmes.
Reserves: Tatafu Polota-Nau, Al Baxter, Mark Chisholm, Scott Fava, Matt Henjak, Lloyd Johansson, Wendell Sailor.

Interesting that Chris Whitaker has been dropped and Giteau does not get another run but Sailor does????

The Ireland team:

The New Zealand team is as follows:
Tony Woodcock, Keven Mealamu, Carl Hayman, Chris Jack, Ali Williams, Jerry Collins, Richie McCaw, Rodney So'oialo, Byron Kelleher, Dan Carter, Sitiveni Sivivatu, Aaron Mauger, Tana Umaga (Captain), Doug Howlett, Mils Muliaina
Reserves:Andrew Hore, Neemia Tialata, Jason Eaton, Mose Tuiali'I, Piri Weepu, Joe Rokocoko, Leon MacDonald

The England team
Josh Lewsey; Mark Cueto, Jamie Noon, Mike Tindall, Ben Cohen; Charlie Hodgson, Matt Dawson; Martin Corry (capt), Lewis Moody, Pat Sanderson; Danny Grewcock, Steve Borthwick; Phil Vickery, Steve Thompson, Andrew Sheridan
Replacements: Lee Mears, Matt Stevens, Louis Deacon, Chris Jones, Harry Ellis, Olly Barkley, Mark van Gisbergen

Both matches should prove interesting with at least one Southern Hemisphere nation coming away with the win, but probably not the right one!!!

Wales 16-33 South Africa

New Zealand stay on course for a 'grand slam' over the home unions with a 23-19 win over

England at Twickenham

And Ireland 14-30 Australia

Good weekend for the Southern Hemisphere

Now all I need is to catch some replays

This Night shift work has it's disadvantages

The Wallabies were fine but not great, honestly Ireland were woeful, but I will take the win any way we can get it, unfortunately!!!

Apparently Gregan is set to announce his retirement from the game before the Welsh test, so hopefully they will make it two in a row!!!
*Wales to be swan song for George - http://foxsports.news.com.au/story/0,8659,17307401-32465,00.html

I haven't seen the South African match but it sounded like a fairly comprehensive victory over a somewhat underperforming Six Nations champ.

As for the All Blacks, they basically won their match against England (and will definately beat Scotland next week to claim their first Grand Slam since 1978) by playing practically the entire second half with only 14 men on the field. Fantastic team effort, even for them.

They may have stood a chance if they were playing Scotland, who got beaten by the Argies 23-19 last night, but I am really not sure about their chances against either Ireland or Wales, who are far superior sides.

So all in all, I'd say we have next to no chance of winning either of these matches (I hope I am wrong) and if this unfortunately eventuates then some tough questions will have to be answered when they get home regarding the team as a whole, but especially coach and captain.

Far superior Queenie? :hihi

Happy to be wrong TGN, but it was a competition for who was least rubbish on the day and thankfully we won, just  ::) !!!

The win however doesn't excuse the way they played as they were bloody awful, it was just convienent that Ireland were even worse (which is really quite sad, given how they performed last season)

I think the match this weekend actually depends quite a lot on whether they close the roof at Millenium Stadium in Cardiff, as the Wallabies want it shut so it is not raining and freezing, conditions which would probably help the Welsh.

I hope to be wrong regarding Wales this weekend as well TGN, but unfortunately I won't hold my breath, as some serious changes need to be made if the Wallabies are even going to come close to playing the rugby we all know they are capable of.

Should be an interesting couple of months now for the ARU and Eddie Jones, after that horrible result in Cardiff, which caps off a particularly smelly year and a god awful end of season tour.

My guess is both Jones and Gregan will be outed so the new coach and captain will have a couple of international seasons to work with before the World Cup in 2007. I just hope the ARU has the guts to do what it has to.

FYI, we haven't lost to Wales in Wales for over 20 years, and haven't actually lost to Wales anywhere since the 1987 World Cup playoff for third in New Zealand, so that was a record breaking 24 - 22 loss  :( !!!

Congratulations should go to the All Blacks however for winning the Grand Slam. Only the second Kiwi touring party to achieve the feet (last time 1978) so it is a very big deal for them and they totally deserve all the accolades we can give, they were fantastic.....all year!!!

The amazing thing is that they managed to win the Slam with four totally different teams, as well as blooding a number of youngsters and debutants (something which we should have done). I just admire the way they have been able to go about it, proving they have amazing depth and talent.

Very scary ::) !!!

Most people are tipping a massive overhaul at the Wallabies over the next few weeks (months).

Peter Jenkins at the Daily Telegraph has been forecasting this for ages now and he will probably be proven right.

This is an interesting article outlining what the plan will most likely be to de-throne both captain and coach.

Captain, Coach Will Go

"COACH Eddie Jones will be sacked and captain George Gregan has played his final Test, with the fallout from the Tour to Hell to end a Wallabies era.

After the national side lost to Wales yesterday for the first time in 18 years, bloodletting on a grand scale will be confirmed when the Australian Rugby Union finalises a post-trip review next month.

There are walking dead among the home-bound party, with long-time allies Jones and Gregan to be the highest-profile victims after a European visit where Australia won just one of four Tests..... "

QC,

In the paper today there is a photograph of Tuqiri lumbering after the Welsh wing, Williams (surprise, surprise), and Williams is wearing a black jersey rather than the traditional red. Do you know why that was?

Can't see Jones surviving now nor Gregan for that matter.Surprised they had re-signed Jones to the next world cup which will prove costly to the ARU if they dump him.The side appears to be a shambles.

Ready, it was a special commemorative shirt to celebrate the 125th Anniversary of Welsh Rugby and this was the colour they wore in their first game.

Been a very good coach for the Wallabies over a long and highly successful period. History will be kind to Jones & Gregan who's soon to follow behind :clap :clap. End of a golden era for Australian Rugby.

Don't think for one minute that these changes will fix the problems they're having. The pack is where most of the issues are.

Good to see Eddie take a swipe at Alan Jones on the way out the door. That guy is a complete *^%(&*&^.
