Round 8 - Other Games

How does King let May just stand there on his own, waiting for a handball from Petty after Petty takes that mark ?? Ffs….get up on him and stop him from getting easy clearances.

Teams let May and Lever get too much easy football and don’t make them defend enough.

Teams are beginning to work them out. Just remains to be seen if teams can then go with them.

This.

I reckon we showed how you can beat them with pressure. Didn't watch the game today but StKilda came back and scored some goals in succession.

Like any team they are beatable, the question is whether any other team has the game and the talent to do it. At the moment the answer is clearly no, but it is a long season.

Yes, they look like us in 2018, but they also have a hint of Adelaide in 2017. What it takes is the game that can nullify their strategies, and the players who can implement that game. Everyone is looking at Melbourne trying to work out how to beat them, that is always the fate of the team at the top, but it is always how they are eventually undone. Just a question of how many flags they get before another team rises because the current top team gets worked out and their players age and lose just a tiny bit of their edge.

They also haven’t faced ANY significant injury adversity to their best players / all hitting one line etc. we’ve fought through lack of Prestia, Edwards, Riewoldt, Martin, Cotchin etc etc in 19/20. In 18 we were fit as until the flu struck.

Few months is a really long time in footy.

Injuries, fatigue and mind games is the best way. We can't control the first 2 but we can play psychologically on them but must have full composure and no messing about.

Melbourne seemed to have copied most of the Tiger blueprint except for the humility.

Gawn morphing into quite an unlikeable flog.
Anyone in the media calling out how it’s unfair the number of games they get at the MCG?

What a cushy run of frees does Carlscum get from the ump
Cripps can hold the ball forever and not get pinged Don’t touch McKay he’ll get the softest of frees

Yes I thought Ratten was actually trying to probe them a bit today. I can't stand sides that continually kick it TO Gawn FFS. They did that a lot.

Yep McKay got one just before half time. Still don’t know what it was for.

Yep and I reckon out of anyone we have the star power up fwd to push them.

I heard Josh Jenkins say that Melbourne play exactly like we did 17-20. Force teams to kick down the line, have an interceptor, re bound off half back, high pressure game.

If that’s true, then the question is, how would we beat ourselves 17-20 ? And maybe, that’s the answer to how you beat Melbourne. Who knows.
