Round 7 - other games

Lions win, Rabbleton hits rock bottom. Port are gonna come out firing next week at AO especially with Cornes last game. Could be a deja vu of last years EF if we're not careful.

I don't know about Port, they have had some glaring issues with their play in the last few games - getting closer to 50-50 I reckon. Hawks should have probably beaten them, West Coast went there and got the job done and now the Lions, who were a basketcase 2 weeks ago, have pantsed them tonight.

Wonder whether they will tank for the rest of the year to get no 1 pick or continue to play as normal?

The Blues are as bad as they've ever been. Knew they'd be bottom four this year (said it about an hour before the round one bounce) but did not expect to see a side go out each week with no effort whatsoever. Saints, Bulldogs and the Tigers today are what happens when you have a crack. Carlton can't even seem to do that.

Ever since the 2013 EF, they've gone backwards, and fast. Our trademark used to be cut sides up with speed and pressuring inside our 50 creating turnovers....they are now as slow as a wet week and simply cannot be bothered to do all the little things that take care of the big things on the footy field. And a 'brand' is non-existent.

At least between 2002-2007 when we languished at the bottom we had Fevola to watch each week. Yesterday's attendance of 16,000 really said it all - there's nothing appealing about the side that makes people want to jump in the car or on the train and head to the ground.

The list itself is in big trouble - a period of a few years of recruiting sh!t is going to take 5-10 years to fix...and that's just to get competitive again I'm afraid. I was previously against the idea of trading out a Murphy or a Gibbs etc, but things surely cannot get any worse. Why wait any longer to start properly rebuilding through the draft?

Let Mick coach out the year and then if they're going to go down the path of finding a new coach, they've got to do it properly. Malthouse was cheque book Carlton, as was Pagan, Ratten who doesn't look so bad compared to the current fiasco was also employed under little process.

The best thing the club can do is rid themselves of the powerbrokers too....*smile* off. They may tip heaps in, but at what cost? We're seeing the cost right now.

I found the recent article about Pagan discussing Carlton's situation quite interesting.

When the players aren't trying why should the fans
I feel like the blooze aren't as bad as they are playing, don't get me wrong they are still bad, but seems like they've checked out for the year
Which IMO is worse that just being a bad team playing at 100%

Ange made a good point on offsiders today,
you can't waste a year in sport, and it takes 3 years to get it back

Pagan was an interesting one. I'm not sure he really had a hope in hell from the get-go at this club. He arrives, Carlton, with an already ageing list from years of "we don't rebuild", are stripped of their draft picks costing Wells and Goddard, fined a then-record amount, and several older players retire. The club was effectively broke with the worst facilities in the league, players are forced to bring their own footy to training, huge off-field discipline problems...the list goes on.

Being a coach at AFL level is a tough enough gig, but at Carlton when you've got powerbrokers running the show and breathing down your neck, with all the aforementioned problems, then you're on a hiding to nothing.

How long do you let Malthouse persist with the older players? Carlton was the 5th oldest team in Round 7.

You'd be better off playing kids and getting spanked rather than playing blokes on the way out and getting spanked. Like Tony Shaw did in '99 before Malthouse took over.

I guess at 1-6 you can't declare to the supporters that the season's over by playing kids who barely have a clue, but that point is coming, surely.

Hinkley now not looking exactly like the messiah many thought he was. There was some discussion on SEN on the weekend that his style is just too demanding to be sustainable.

I don't think they have many quality kids on the list.

Looks great now, but imagine when he matures....and at what club?

Didn't Cameron just sign for 5 years with the Giants? Doesn't look like he's in a hurry to play elsewhere.

Let's see when he reaches 26 years of age nearing free agency. Wouldn't be surprised he'll be a Pie.

How's Poosy for a coach. Everytime his team gets done, they don't bother reviewing the game and move on. What a great way to learn....not.

No wonder Rabblebourne gets thumped often. Make it happen, have review-free day, team lunch and the sun is shining again. What a life. Just make sure Poosy's money is rolling in...

After getting Ratten and then Judd, it was all going well for the blues.
2 minutes into the second quarter of R7 v the saints in 2012 (just after kruezers goal) it started heading South.ive got no idea why.
Blues had just played three consecutive finals series after spending a while in the woods.
They were 5-1 and motoring along.
And then stopped.
PS: There was a finals appearance in 2013 but it's got a big * next to it.
