Round 6 Changes verses the Dees - ANZAC eve

It's time.

Unforgettable game by El Syd. It’s players like Dusty, Shai and him that can light up the MCG and get the club firing on all cylinders. Imagine if all 3 are back in the side and fully fit.

Add in Grimes for good measure!

How good is it we’re playing an undefeated Melbourne this week?

Talk about a season defining game.

Hopefully the loss they had to have. I've seen us on the wrong (losing) end of these type of games in seasons gone by than at the right (winning) end.

For some stupid reason I’m cautiously optimistic. As they say “to be the best you have to beat the best”. After listening to Teague and Clark at Club 80 they know where we are at. I get the strong feeling our season is still building towards the second half so we have not been playing our best footy yet. Then again it could be a 100 point thumping :ROFLMAO:

Agree on the 2nd half of season, but only if it's with the kids in the midfield. Good momentum into 2023.

We will win this match but it doesn’t mean we’re back to our best. I look at the dogs games if it wasn’t for their hideous shots at goal we would have had a thumping

Love the ins!

Would be worried with Miller out.

Surprised there isn't more discussion of Tarrant.

Had absolute bags kicked on him.

This is not good news for us.

"We have got some selection headaches in that space inside our forward 50," Goodwin told reporters on Thursday.

"It's a great problem to have.

"They're all playing some really good footy, as we have seen with Sam Weideman coming into the team, he has reminded everyone that he is a high quality player.

"We have got a really important training session today to get through ... we have some decisions to make after."

Weideman was among Melbourne's 12 goalkickers in a 67-point thrashing of GWS last Saturday - a victory featuring a 10-goal third quarter.

But Goodwin warned there was still much improvement to come from his reigning premiers.

I’m liking this ToO but I think Miller gets another chance, Back Pocket
Short to Half Back Flank
Rioli To Half Forward Flank
George To Ressies for a week or two.
Edwards To start I/C
Maybe also sneak Mansell in for Parker?

Miller would be very unlucky but Gibcus has to come back in & I don't think we'll play two kids.
With Soldo playing (hopefully) then one of the talls has to come out. Balta can go back if required.
Really wish Grimes was available this week.

I reckon that conversation will happen when Grimes comes back. I'd be loathe to move Balta back again just yet.

As Melbourne are head and shoulders in front of the comp, if we win this game, without Dusty Grimes and possibly Lambert, I'd say we ARE back to our best.

Miller unlucky but we can't have both him and gibcus playing. I also think Dimma will be conservative and play Graham before Parker.

Out: Dow, Hugo
In: KMac and Aarts - maybe Lambert or Sydders.

This is Round 6. The Melbournes are pretty wound up now and looking awesome.

We are missing our champion, and totally rebuilding our backline. But our gerries look okay to me. That's not the problem.

Hardwick was big on this - our defence at stoppage last week was disastrous. Against a spoony spooner.

I think it's unlikely that Hardwick is about to sacrifice any of our children. There is a season ahead.

We won't concede percentage. He'll spring a few traps.

I'm pretty certain we'll rest Dow. And Hugo will miss. Kamdyn will play. Hardwick may bring Lambert back. But is this the game for that? Does Miller miss for Gibcus? The Dees have zero genuine tall forwards, with apologies to Bailey Fritsch. (Brown is out.) Could playing three talls deny them aerial presence in their 50?

I doubt Fly would promote Sydders but Hardwick perhaps might. If we play any youth it's with a long term plan.

I'm fascinated to see what Mr Damien Hardwick does this week. I like winning the I50 and losing the game as a predictor for a form reversal. Winning clearance and losing score on that. Reversible. The Dees picked off the overpossessing GWS Battlers last week. Far too classy. The Dees were honest and professional. And look better small up front. Can we get that to work for us?

Melbourne's greatest strength is that they have the best and second-best players in the game in Petracca and Oliver. Their biggest weakness is from #3 down in their midfield - all potatoes. They're not invincible.

Perhaps we'll meet them again at a more meaningful time. Mr Damien Hardwick has plans in place for this meeting and the next. Goodwin and we will see this week's in just a few days.
