Round 5: the Today and Sunrise games.

Collingwood and the umpires.
They get looked after like no other team in the comp.
Stkilda will go back to where they belong out of the 8.
It's a pity because this year is looking like a year when a really ordinary side will win the flag.
If Collingwood are flag favourites just load up on another team because they won't win it. Still tooo many duds placing above themselves.

The simple truth is this - Collingwood's rucks are out injured and it makes no difference whatsoever. They adapt, select a team accordingly, devise a suitable game plan, and beat the top side.

Discuss.
Did you miss their prior game? Lions undid them with lack of big rucks being crucial. But see my post #333 - Skunks HB and kicking beats most opponents. Saints run but these skills poorer atm - blew their chances with hardly even looking near the end; just banged it forward. Skunks hit their targets far more and really direct their kicks. Including at goal.

Having said that, think the Bummers might beat them on ADay.

After five rounds I think the beauty of team performances picking each other off when not expected to, actually leaves the door open for sides like the Tiges with a good number of injuries and now a good amount of inexperienced players time to meld and possibly have a good tilt at the flag when it matters.

If the Bojo's at the AFL want this plastic 'Covid' Gather round to work.
They can't hold it in Adelaide Melbourne Sydney and Tasmania. People want to get away over the weekend to place wity decent weather. Im not paying to sit at the footy and get saturated.

Overall, the media have blown this round out of proportion. Gills can take this round alongside AFLX and *smile* off.
It's not exciting, it's just 6-7 ordinary games most them over umpired. Besides watching Adelaide slap Carlton, the rest have been boring. Most of them Channel changes.
What is Kano going to say about Oliver's 35 possessions after half time. Essendon increased its lead over the same period. Is he worth 7yrs??? He dosent hit the score board. It's Goodwins fault.
How are the AFL meant to ensure non boring games?
so it only rains in the named places?

The really ordinary side theory… deployed every year since ….. except 17 19 20

Something sucks with Queen Adelaide town getting next three years Gather games. Wonder if we see all the gushing before the Pies/Zainters again next year & beyond.

They really need to shift the single location round to different hosts.

I would think Tassie would be a good choice to whet their appetite for their own tem.

But, the AFL only considers the dollars, no interest in the future of the game.

Agreed Dave!

Hobart (Bellerive and maybe Clarence) Launnie, Burnie and Devonport could all host games.

What do our Taswegian PRE'RS think about this??

The SA Prem cut it off at the pass by throwing bazillions at it hence its a bit of a moot point now.

It would've been a great idea in Tassie to test the waters.

Adelaides proximity to Perth, Tassie and Melbourne made it a safe and practical choice hence they got it first.

Melbourne metropolitan used to have a " gather round".
Six games on a Saturday, all happening simultaneously with radio crosses around the grounds for scores.

It was called the VFL.

It used to happen every week. But hey modern day AFL marketing is convincing....

And strangely enough the other states say they sacrificed more than Victoria for AFL.

I'm so glad we can watch unwatchable clubs from interstate............

Rant over

Bellerive in Hobart, York Park in Launceston for sure, as they already host AFL matches.

My understanding is that Penguin’s brand new facilities (Dial Park) Is by far the best surface on the NW coast these days. But wouldn’t have the spectator capacity of the older nostalgic grounds - namely West Park in Burnie and Devonport Oval. To me Burnie has always seemed notionally a bit more of a footy town than Devonport, but the shape and size of West Park’s field of play would count Burnie out of hosting an AFL match for premiership points, I would assume.

I was a bit disappointed to hear that WA wasn’t going to host next year, I incorrectly assumed it the natural progression. A blend of the new (Optus Stadium) with a couple of the nostalgic old WAFL grounds of the likes of Fremantle Oval would be great.

West coast having a massive sook about it. Complaining about an extra week of travel and want an extra home game next year to compensate.

While I don’t support them getting an extra home game, I think their argument is valid. The draw is already massively compromised.
