Round 22 vs Bombers

I really wish we were capable of kicking 30 goals.

Not that I want us getting ahead of ourselves... but our biggest win over Essendon is only 74 points. Only the Adelaide GWM is lower (46). Hopefully we can the upper hand early and go for the throat.

They may have a win against the GC, who are also pretty awful, but we should bring the reality of their situation back home to them pretty emphatically. Why not 30 goals? Kicked 22 against the GC with a forward line everyone said wouldn't work and Jack only contributed 2 of them.

Record winning margin of 74 points against the Bombers. Havent beaten them by more than 10 goals since 1983 I think.

Time to write some new history.

Win - just the 4 points and any % a bonus. No ruckman, no Jobe Watson (has form in recent years, played injured earlier this year). Show empathy post game, destroy them during the game...

We struggle to beat teams twice in a year... Would love to know the last time we beat Carlton, Collingwood and Essendon twice in the same year... Dig up the history books.

Would have been nice just to rubs Hird's face in it one more time.

If you're talking about an Easter Monday in probably 1982 I remember that final quarter onslaught well.

Edit: I just looked it up. 1982. Ten goals in the final quarter in front of 90,564. Both teams had 12 goals to 1/2 time. We finished on 25.22.172 to 16.14.110. Seven goals to Wiley, 4 goals to KB and 3 to BT.

What a team that day!

Awesome team - should have won the flag :-\

The 74 point win came in 1983, when we were an ordinary team after all of the defections and the Bummers were on their way to a Grand Final and then back-to-back flags. It was a wet day at Windy Hill and I remember a blond CHF from WA named Dan Foley kicked 5. I thought we had a real player there, but he never kicked on much after that.

Remember it well. The club told us David Palm and Dan Foley would well cover Geoff Raines and David Cloke.....

Ouch! :hihi
David Palm played some solid footy, but he certainly wasn't the Rolls Royce that Pretty Boy was!

Need to summon L2R2R. I think he posted the details after we beat Carlton. Been hard to do, though, because this is the first season for a while we're we've played all 3 twice in the one year.

We sort of did it in 1973.
Beat Essendon 2-0 in the home and aways.
Went 1-1 against both Carlton and Collingwood in the home and aways but beat them both in the finals.
Also lost a final to Carlton, so it was 2-2 for the year against them.

Them were the days.

These are the years we've played them at least twice each. 1931 the only flawless year.

Brilliant stuff LTRTR as always!!

It's interesting that it always seems to coincide with us winning a flag (give or take a year!).

Hopefully that's another sign that we're nearly there!!

Don't often get many chances to play them all twice since the number of teams started to increase in 1987.

If we win our first final we won't be allowed to play all three of them twice in the 2016 fixture.
