Richmond's Premiership Window?

I figured getting Lynch extended our window by a 2-3 years at least, out to 2023 or 2024. Rance going potentially negates this given lack of KPP defender depth.

I don't think we can win a premiership without Dusty on the field. His body will determine how many more years we will contend.

I remain hopeful it never closes (at least not all the way). Picking up the point on another thread, in our premiership 22, we have Bolton and Baker as 21 yo's. Soldo, Castagna, Short, Rioli as 22/23 yo/s, Nank, Broad and Vlastuin as 25/26yos, Prestia, Caddy and Lynch as 27 yo/s, Grimes, Astbury, Lambert, Pickett, Dusty and Cotchin as 28/29 yo's. Only Jack, Houli and Shed as 30+ yo's. Behind that we have Graham, Higgins, Ross as bona fide best 22 players and CCJ, RCD, Turner, Naish, Garthwaite as good money replacements. I think the age profile and balance of the list is such that we have 5 to 10 years in the top echelon of the ladder,
I think this was a little debunked in the first half of the year when we struggled to cover the loss of our top line players - Cotch, Jack, Rance, Lambert, etc. (despite some honourable wins) No doubt the kids will improve and it was a great period to expose a few kids, but it is going to be difficult to replace our elite top end who are mostly pushing 30 or above.

We’ve been blessed with 2 in 3 years but they don’t come for free. None of us would have expected this a few years back. It’s hard to quantify and will depend on our recruiting team, free agents and development. I would not be surprised if we grabbed 1 or 2 more in the next 3 years.

Windows don’t stay open too long.
Going back over the premiers for this century :

Essendons was open for just 3 seasons, 99-01, winning 1.
Brisbane was 4 seasons, 01-04 winning 3.
Port was 2, 03-04 winning 1.
Sydney was 2, 05-06 winning 1.
West coast was 3, 05-07 winning 1.
Geelongs IS 2007 to current! Winning 3. They’ve finished in the top 4 every season (bar 2012 when they finished 6 and 2015 when they missed the finals) for 11 seasons.
Hawthorn was 1, 2008.
Collingwood was 4 seasons, 2009-13 winning 1.
Sydney was 6, 2012-2017 winning 1.
Hawthorn was 5, 2012-2016 winning 3
Western bulldogs was 1, 2016, winning 1.
West coast is 2016- 2019, winning 1 so far.
Richmond IS 4, 2017-2020, winning......3!

of course these just highlight the teams who WON one in their window. Collingwood in 01-02, St Kilda in 09/10 Both failing to win one in their window.

Well they only stay open for a couple of hours if they open up when you run out for a GF and they slam shut as soon as you lift the cup.

seems an odd data set TT.

Hawks window certainly flew opened suddenly in 08, but you say then it slammed shut and reopened 4 years later? ditto swans

and the Dogs window slammed shut the moment they took the cup? They are still in a window as far as I am concerned.

Tigers opened way before 2017 too

different criteria for windows I suppose?

We need a back to back to shut the Geelong nufties up. Their period of dominance never produced a back to back.

2019 *should* have been our 3peat. This year would have been about achieving the nirvana that is a 4peat. 2021 about going where know AFL team had gone before.

2 more premierships in the next 5 years would do me.

If we can get one more in the next 2 years it will be seen as a golden era for the club.
This would surpass 1967-74 era..

Am interested in what the fair minded/impartial people;) on here believe our Premiership Window remains open?

IMO opinion we may only have 2 more years at our Zenith, (2022 Edwards, Houli, Cotchin, JR8 will be gone), we may find replacements nearing the same talent but miles off in footy IQ.

I reckon thats about right.

Must win it this year. Its already been beyond most people dreams but 3 outta 4 would be insane. Literally, will die happy.

Our window is lookong good for a while yet.
Is the AFL trying any rule changes to limit our chances?
