You're right RFC not KFC, the stats don't show the calibre of player that DOES make it at AFL level (and our trade deals over time don't stack up too well), but it still shows that the percentages of success are with trading rather than with the ND. That's not to say that the ND isn't worth it, just that there must be a balance.

The only way success in football can be measured is by consistent finals participation and ultimately premierships. RFC fail miserably on this count.

Maybe a reasonable % of our draftees play a reasonable amount of games, but as RFC not KFC stated, the stats do not allow for the fact that performance level of these players is crap. And that is why Beck, and everyone who has allowed him 8-9 years at the club, is a complete failure.

Oh we're from loserland
A bunch of whingers
We're from loserland.
From what I've read in this bunch of posts it looks like we are going to cop more of the same in 2004. Sounds like the new C.E.O. is a good Yank rah rah spin doctor ---something the septics just love, and Hutchy and the footy dept are just gunna play steady as she goes on the Titanic. I might just hold my breath till after the trade and draft period, but I think that when I renew my membership I may get the club to donate my ticket to the White Lion charity that Manton and Krakattack work with. At least that way some kids may get a laugh. I wont have to suffer another year like the last two===== did I say two? I meant twenty two, and the Tiges will still get a membership out of me. Just WAITING WAITING WAITING.

This is the first time that I have participated so forgive me if I bring up a lot of different things under this one banner.

I can't believe I am reading this rubbish about a Members Forum, how did you find out about it. I did not receive any info, I am a social club donator and the club has my email address (and I do read there messages.)but I do not remember seeing anything about.

I am concerned about the things that Harry is reporting re Huthcy's comments concerning older players.

I must agree that Greg Beck must be the worst recruiting manager in the league.

I can't think of an early pick/trade that we have come out on the positive side of the ledger in the last ten years where we were questioned and we could then turn around and could say we told you so. The last one was Broderick et al for Hoggy who's back was shot.

People say that it takes along time to turn these things around, this is an issue when you sign players on ridiculous contracts for a large amount of time.

The other problem we have is that we do not let players go when there is a half decent offer on the table. When Holland was negotiating his last big contract (2001 I think) I have heard that Adelaide offered Kane Johnson as a straight swap for Holland, two years later we give up pick no.2 (Daniel Wells - who I think can play a bit) to get Kane. Don't get me wrong I thing KJ is a very good player. Again we missed the opportunity to move on a bloke commonly none at my work as s...truck to get a quality midfielder. A few years ago Bidders wanted to move onto Collingwood (2001 I think) and we did everything to keep him.

As a member I am prepared to pay a donation to the club if they say we are going to pick kids and develop them cost should not be an issue because I can't understand how a team with a weak list (according to Miller) and a record of two (making up the numbers) finals appearances in the last 21 years can have salary cap problems.

The only way the club should pick players from other clubs is via the Pre season draft, but this should only be used as an absolute last resort.

The first thing that needs to happen is that every position needs to be filled on the list with kids.

People say that you need slow turnover, not true I say remove the 10-12 players that have been identified here they are in case you have missed them [Hilton (the only times he has put his body on the line he has been injured TWICE Neitz last year, Rocca this year), D Kellaway (great servant of the club, but then again so are we all who are members, the game has gone by him), Petticoat (not as good as he thinks he is), Cameron (saw the writing on the wall this week by retiring a couple of others could consider this option like DK and Matty Rogers.), Fleming (could get a game with the worst Carlton side in history), King (has he ever seen the weights room), Bidders (comes from Geelon must have handbag), Nicholls ( 5 games in 3 years why would you bother), Vardy (pass me another beer, a bloke comes close to loosing your club sponsorship and he stays?), Houlihan (see Bidders)] and other than Campbell, Coges and Kane Johnson no player is untradeable.

The last thing is the game plan (is there one?) It is an late 1970's early 1980's game plan that does not work anymore. Having big blokes that can't pick up the ball below the knee is a thing of the past. NONE of the teams in the eight this year or who have one GF in the last 13 years have had more than one big bloke who could not pick it up below the knee. We have them all over the field and when these big blokes go over the big threats (yeah right) are removed and our whole game falls apart and then it looks twice as bad if that is possible. We need to look at game plan that revolves around a lot of hard running midfielders that can be replaced a bit easier than a big bloke as there are more midfielders around than big blokes. I am not saying the list a present could do this because it clearly can't but this is what we need to aim for.

Every other club seems to be able to find decent players to draft after pick 40, why cant we??

The football department know that they have no idea about picking young talent, and then, if we do happen to get a kid with talent, we dont know how to develop them into quality senior players.

Essendon is a great example, they just keep drafting kids every year, Welsh, Bolton, Bullen etc, some turn out to be good, some dont, thats the draft, but you cant find good kids if you dont draft any. If Essendon do trade, they tend to pick up players who are 20-21, such as McPhee and Cupido. We pick up Nicholls and Fleming.

Welcome to PuntRoadEnd, Haydn :) . Top post.

Can't argue with anything you've listed in your post. A spot on summary of our on-field situation IMO.

As I heard about the members' forum here first I didn't check if there were notices of the meeting elsewhere such as on the official RFC website.
