Rich V Port - Game Day Thread

Great win by the Tigers!!!!!
I tipped them in all 3 tipping comps.
Did anyone notice at the 9.55 min countdown clock in the last quarter when Lids was having a shot on goal time off was not signaled and 20 sec was not taken of the clock.
Didn't matter in the end but if it was close ?

If we've ever played a better defensive quarter than the third quarter I can't remember it

Beaten them 2 out of 3 times. Unfortunately we failed spectacularly when it mattered most.
It was a really good win no doubt but Hardwick has got to get that type of performance out of his team when expectations are there, not when we are playing catchup with none.

Was particularly impressed with the teamwork and cohesiveness out of defence for much of the game.

Plenty of support for one another and releasing the ball from tight situations into space. Good clean hands make a world of difference.

Make no mistake, we were the hunter out there last night. And it was bloody good to see. Tigers being Tigers.

Funny game last night.

There was hardly a clean play from either team. Nearly every disposal was pressured, there was no space to run into, no spread ( well, not that we could see on TV), no slick handball, no dinky switches of play, nothing to get the excitement going. Just lots of good old-fashioned football.

Port Adelaide’s gameplan has now been picked apart so thoroughly that even Hardwick knows how to beat them. Pittard, Hartlett and Jonas, once so assured with ball in hand now win it across half-back and stutter around, trying to figure out what to do. I’ll switch, no can’t switch. I’ll look short on the boundary side, no cut off too. I’ll go long, no can’t go long. Stuff it, I’ll just kick it anywhere!

They look like drunken sailors walking around Hamburg trying to find a brothel in the dark.

Take the corridor away and they gots nuthin’. They have become the Milli Vanilli of the AFL. Take away the recorded music and they gots nuthin’ either.

The only team that will fear them now is Carlton. And that is only because none of their coaches, players, Board Members or fans can actually bring themselves to watch football any more.

Sad, but oddly satisfying.

I might disagree - this game mattered - season on the line stuff for both clubs - junk wins occur at the end of the year when it doesn't matter, the pressure to win is off and finals are not on the radar.

From my watching the game (tv) Port were desperate to win and neither team wanted to be 3:5

Yes we had something to lose, every game counts to some extent.
The key point is we weren't near favourites. Very few expected us to beat a desperate Port on their home turf. We were clear underdogs.

We seem to struggle most when the expectation is that we will win or in really big games in front of our home crowd.
This week against the Bombers expectations will be much greater.
If we perform well and take care of the Dons, then I will start to think that we're perhaps turning the corner and maturing as a football team.

Key questions will still remain though until we win finals. That's where my expectations sit now with Hardwick and co. after 6 years.

Yep, the last 2 weeks have been an improvement but lets see what the full season holds for us.

Some of us where saying the same thing when we where losing!

But agree. Still lots to do. Jury still out.

The last two weeks they have been very good. The leaders, the side and the coach.

Come on tigers, take it up another notch! Then take it up another again, rinse repeat!

I think as the team matures - hopefully we will start to see the expectations realized and we start to win the big games at home - I think the blues (rd 1 always a big game) and pies showed glimpses of what we can do in big blockbuster games but agree we need to start to be more consistent.

Given the focus and support the bombers generally get for the media - the hype around Daniher etc I assume they will go into the match favs - agree though we need to consistently stand up in these games and Sat night is another opportunity for the tigers to do that

really ugly game due to our scragging and boundary line play. Hope we don't persist with this style of play.

Disagree...it is our best style for what we have and will win finals.
I like it.
Every game can be won this way, no matter the opposition.
Players like Jack and Dusty excel because they win one on one duels. Suits Maric too.
