Dont need to be a fitness coach to know that match simulation is a different fitness to running straight lines recovering from an injury.Sounds like you are a fitness coach? At the end of tomorrow we will know more but only the coaches know where everyone is really at. I agree that Noah was a star last year however do you know why he’s not in the team ? Is it form or a discipline issue? You can’t comment when you don’t know. I trust a 3 time premiership coach and a very smart coaching team to make the right calls. It’s a 23 round season and we will see plenty of changes throughout the year. Go Tiges
Personally I think Noah should be taking Jack R's spot.Agreed, whilst Cumbo is small, he plays like a mid. He doesn't really have any defensive pressure, certainly not the level of most small forwards. If he can bring that to his game, he would be elite but at this stage he doesn't. We will be going with the 2 talls, plus 1 medium and then pressure players / resting tall forward this season and as you say Cumbo is competing for that medium forward role with 1 Dustin Martin.
Hopefully he can work on upping the pressure side to his game, as that would mean he could play 1 of the smaller roles and he could then turn himself into an elite small forward.
Nailed it Craig.
Unfortunately for Cumberland he is competing for the same spot as arguably the greatest player of all time.
So going by your theory MRJ shouldn’t be getting a game either? Not sure that Mansell has earned the GOAT status.
I get the logic that structurally Cumbo is more similar to Martin, but that's because our structure is wrong.
Someone needs to tattoo every single member of our MC on their foreheads with 'defensive forwards are pointless'.
There is simply no place for them anymore.
Given that from a kick out you can run 25 metres untouched and launch it 50 means you are defending on your wings (which is why Kmac and Marlion are so valuable).
From a dead ball in the forward line, you want ball winners who can use the ball, not people who run around like headless chickens. In regards to Mansell specifically, he's more likely to give away a free kick then hold the ball in. This is particularly stark with how difficult it is to earn a holding the ball free kick now, and how easy it is for the person pressuring to infringe.
And finally, given how easy it is to find a target by foot from the backline now, as you can kick 360 degrees without the man on the mark moving, pressure forwards end up just doing a lot of standing still on the mark. You can't out chase the ball in mid-air.
Defending and pressure happen in the mid. The forward line is for forwards now.
Also, we've got Cotchy playing defensive forward? I feel like Cotchy and Mansell should be competing for the same spot if anything.
Personally I think Noah should be taking Jack R's spot.
They are down for Taller backs, with Marchbank missing again.Surprised McGovern named for them. He's just as underdone as some of our blokes.
MRJ is a RioliSo going by your theory MRJ shouldn’t be getting a game either?
Agree. So basically Noah Cumberland is Stuart McGill. If this is the case he may as well request a trade to Sydney to play on the SCG regularly. Only time we ever saw the McGiller. Or maybe he can go play in India!Has made way for the Tiger King.
Noah hasn't impressed since the return of the GOAT.
Martin and Cotchin rotating forward is his problem as the club does need a small pressure player forward to help Uncle Moju.
Juddy is stiff if you ask me also.
Yes I know.MRJ is a Rioli
Yep agree.Dont need to be a fitness coach to know that match simulation is a different fitness to running straight lines recovering from an injury.
Hope im wrong and Graham and co have ripper games but Jack G looked like he had concrete boots on throughout most of 2022. Coming from an interrupted pre season he should have played at least 2-3 games in the 2s.
Dont think people have realised just how slow a team we have.
Add in a couple of underdone players and you have a problem.
The match committee know this which is why they have gone with the desperate selection of Mansell as a pressure fwd who has some leg speed.
More than happy to be proven wrong and hopefully we go 4-0
Not to answer for Coburg, but MRJ possesses creative talent as well, and lots of it. He is the minimum for a ‘pressure’ forward, a bloody smart player as well and has learnt his forward craft over his whole junior career - as for Mansell…???Yes I know.
But back to your point, pressure forwards are now redundant in the game. So again what purpose does he serve if that’s the case.
I agree with you that Mansell isn’t the player to play that role but i disagree that pressure small forwards aren’t required.
What MRJ did at times last year literally swung games back in our favour.
They are down for Taller backs, with Marchbank missing again.
Will try and use him in the same role as they Marchbank when he actually plays.
Again I was questioning CT’s comments regarding that pressure forwards are not required in todays game. I am not supporting the selection of Mansell. To me it screams of the Steve Morris experiment all those years ago.Not to answer for Coburg, but MRJ possesses creative talent as well, and lots of it. One trick pony I think and not sure how good that trick is.
Hopefully have egg on face, but even if it works tomorrow night, it won’t last. So why go there?
What about Lloyd saying we have lost players and named Castagna, Dan Rioli (his brain must of clicked into gear for a brief second and corrected it by saying he has moved down back) but then went onto mention Jacob Aarts. Firstly Castsgna barely played last year and secondly who the *smile* is Jacob Aarts?Bartel on FC just named Dusty, Lynch and……. Cumberland as reasons why Richmond will win. Fair dinkum
