they wouldn't use political strategies like that would they?
Never!! ;D ;D ;D

Yeah, bit like promising to raise the speed tolerance ::)

one parties policy is a act of fairness to the public , the others is in response to another partiews and a back flip on an existing policy, there is a difference

Interesting comment in the paper today. Apparantly the government thinks differently about drink drivers and speeding. It's not ok to have a 10% tolerance on speedos (although it's national standards), but it IS ok to have a 20% tolerance on breathalyzers because they are built to national standards! ??? ??? ???
The fact that this government didn't even know about it is a joke. So the way I read it is, it's not ok to do 3 kph over but it is ok to be 0.06 and drive.

State defends breath test

TRANSPORT Minister Peter Batchelor yesterday admitted he had no idea drivers were given a 20 per cent tolerance on roadside breath tests.

"I've got to admit, I wasn't generally aware of it until it was brought forward in the paper," Mr Batchelor said.
But he defended the integrity of the system, despite revelations drink-drivers are getting back behind the wheel.

Police Minister Tim Holding was at a meeting in Perth yesterday.

The Herald Sun revealed yesterday that drivers who had a blood alcohol reading of up to .0615 could produce a breath test result under .05 because of secret, 20 per cent reductions built into the breathalyser machines.

A police officer told the Herald Sun yesterday officers had held concerns with the devices for years.

"We rely on the devices when we've got no confidence in the readings, yet we have to submit documents and go to court under oath," he said.

"All we're advised is that a consideration is built into the devices due to legal issues.

"Everyone is laughing about it today. The equipment's faulty and we can't guarantee the readings."

Mr Batchelor yesterday said the 20 per cent built-in tolerance was part of a national standard.

"It's been in place ever since the preliminary breath testing procedures were first developed," he said.

Opposition police spokesman Kim Wells said it made a mockery of the Transport Accident Commission's "just a little bit over" safety campaign.

"You can't be advertising one thing, saying just a little bit over, but on the other hand allowing all those people up to .015 off scot-free," Mr Wells said.

I think Flashing the ligghts is a good thing. Stops people speeding and keeps money in the pocket. If you flash some one they always slow down.  Flashing is more of a human touch like helping out a stranger. It's good for the commnity.

I flash my lights all the time - always when there is no sign of a camera or radar. Subverts the practice of flashing your lights to help speeding bludgers get away with it.

Yes and it happened again this year.

Travelling a 'detected' 69km/h from an 'alleged' 66km/h on a 60km/h and I get fined $134.

What is it with this idiotic government?

With a speedometer of not even 2cm difference from 60km/h to 70km/h, how can you possibly keep the level of speed at 60 or under when you're virtually 'pushed' by other cars behind you to move faster on a busy road.

I can understand fining drivers who go above 20km/h but under 10km/h is a complete joke.

It was definitely under Labor that the 3kmh limit was put in place.

RACV studies show that the very small inaccuracy/tolerance level on speedos is always on the side of the driver. eg If your speedo says you are doing 106 you are actually doing 103.
my speedo is slower then the speed limit going by those speed check things i am 4 k's under better that then over ;D

also you can get booked for flashing people to warn them as a friend nearly found out a un marked police car saw him fash people so when he pulled up beside my friend he told him so and asked had he had his picture taken he said yes police man said not to do it again and warned him he is lucky not to get fined for flashing people with his headlights to warn them

going slower when tailgated is a dumb *smile* attitude. you are being tailgated for a reason. you are probably going too slow in the right lane.

keep left unless overtaking and give way people. you wont get tailgated.

Idiots still tailgate.

Simple way to deal with it is to stand on the brakes. The stooges tend to back off then.

Talking about revenue grabbers, how about this new "Water Tank Tax". $66 per year for collecting rain water and saving water.

***king joke!

If you're getting tailgated on a freeway, then you should move across, thats for sure. If you're getting tailgated in the left lane, slow down and *smile* them off, its their fault. My issue with tailgaters is on the single lane roads...and I always slow down if they tailgate me at the speed limit on those roads.

I had a L-plater tailgating me on the freeway on Saturday, it was bizarre, she wouldn't leave me alone no matter how fast I went. So we played tag all the way to Fountain gate, overtaking each other in turn. I don't think her mum was very impressed (I got a glare everytime they went past me), but the driver was having a grin and the two kids in the back gave me a wave as we went past each other.
