Reece Conca - so long and thanks for all the fish

Re: Reece "Silky Smooth" Conca

Im a Conca fan but needs to improve very bloody quickly this year.

Typical Conca game. Some good bits combined with some sloppy disposal.

He is what he is.
And that is a player in the best of the rest outside the top 22. So he can come in and a fill a spot when needed.
Probably wouldn't be a good sign if he played too many games this year.

Re: Reece "Silky Smooth" Conca

What's all the criticism - he is depth and sits around 20 - 25. He will be called on from time to time and can effectively come in when required. We have had much worse "depth" players in the past.

As others have said - we were pretty scrappy across the ground (lost count of handballs going behind a player) the team as a whole will get much sharper and the game appeared to be a played at a manic pace.

Looked a pace off early. Thought his zip in the last was much better. Deserves a decent run at it.

Agree. I don't think he's best 22 but his last quarter was good.

Raw stats just confirm what was seen with the eyes. Bozos don't see it and claim he had multiple clearances in the last quarter when he only had 2 for the whole game.

so if he didnt have a clearance in the 1st 3/4s when he was playing back he had multiple clearances the last?

Re: Reece "Silky Smooth" Conca

I barely noticed him in the first 3 quarters but had a better last.

Did he move into the midfield in the last?

I think he was reflective of the team. Played average and was scrappy, however was at his best when the game needed to be won in the last.

Holds his spot for next week.

After re-watching the last half again only on replay, agree his last quarter was very good if you take that in isolation.

Has to be given a month maybe 6 weeks. Even if doesn't hold a spot down after that at least he has been exposed to the better Richmond so that if he has to come in for 1 or 2 weeks for injury cover there is some chance he will slot in seamlessly. If he is dropped this week pointless having him on the list.

Re: Reece "Silky Smooth" Conca

the name conca was called out a hundred times or thereabouts. BT obvs thinks Flossy without a beard is a conca.
For the first game BT was deadset rusty.
And concas ball use ordinary, but did provide run and drive. starting to really see where Scoop sits

Re: Reece "Silky Smooth" Conca

The fact is, after last year's rise, we now expect our small defenders to be able to lock-down, provide rebounding offence and have clinical/very good skills. There simply are better options than Reece sadly, as many of us have a soft spot for him. He should be back at VFL and proving what he is capable of and ironing out his skill deficiencies.

BT's a moron, he also called Brendan Ellis as Conca. The guy has always had trouble getting the names right, how does one commentate for so long?

Well to find out I re-watched the last quarter with a focus on Conca. And here's what I saw:

17.24 (to go): Received on HFF and perfect pass to McIntosh inside 50 - he then missed the shot for goal
11:46: HBF pickup and handball to Grigg
10:53: Tigers 19 points up, Conca is at centre bounce - Dusty gets clearance - results in goal
10:29: 25 points up, Caddy clearance & handball to Conca, bombs it forward into 50, ball is repelled
9:20: wing, Conca smothers creates a turnover then receives handball further down & handballs to Edwards (who bombs, no score)
8:06: Conca at centre bounce - handball receive from Dusty clearance - beautiful kick to Reiwoldt on 50, unfortunately no score
6.45: Throw in on wing - Conca punches forward 20 metres but cleared by Carlton (not sure if this goes down as a clearance - maybe).

Must have come off after that. Whilst he wasn't totally bad, he really was not the clearance winner in the last and certainly wasn't the key to our comeback. Had one clearance (punch from throw in) so must have had a centre clearance at some other stage of the match. Watching the last quarter replay, Jack Graham was unbelievable and very influential when he was in the middle with his immense pressure and Dusty was the cream who made it all happen to pull us in front, just an absolute champion.

Thought Short had some great dash in the last and broke the play open a bit too. So it's going to be a tough one who stays in for Prestia and Houli. I'm thinking C Ellis might miss out.

Re: Reece "Silky Smooth" Conca

With 4 Premiership players to return Reece has to find the level fairly quickly (which is a bit of an ask considering his time out) as he will soon be fighting with Short for a spot when Basha and Broad return, and Short has the advantage of being able to play as a small forward if Shai doesnt step it up over the next few.

Corey Ellis should make way for Dion next week if he is fit.

What a wretched performance. Surely Lloyd, Miles or Menadue would offer more. So untidy
