With Christmas just around the corner, I am after advice from those more learned on these matters regarding which is better, the XBox or the PS3. I think I asked this question on here sometime ago, but I can't find the thread for the life of me.

My son (9 yr old) really wants an XBox. I must admit I went with him to a store the other day and thought they looked pretty nifty. But with an PS3 sitting next to it, well they both looked pretty good. And of course, I have spoken to about 5 different salespeople who give me 5 different reasons as to buy one or the other.

I'd really appreciate any unbiased info anyone has on either, or a link to a good independent site where a comparison can be made.

PS3.

Plays Blu-Ray movies and it doesn't cost you an annual subscription fee to play games online.

both

kinect for 360 is almost the asking price for a 360 on its own. stunning and interactive technology that makes the wii look prehistoric

You forgot to mention that the blu-ray player on the PS3 consumes about five times as much energy as the average stand-alone player.

To me, it really comes down to what you are going to want it for. Both consoles are cheap as now.

I use the ps3. Love the blu-ray on it. I also use it to stream stuff i've downloaded. As mentioned above the xbox has the new kinect which looks stunning but ive never tried it to comment any further on it.

pointless question really, its like asking the rev head buffoons at bathurst which is better between holden and ford.

fan boys of any product have their own clouded delusional opinions and the reality is the only thing that forms their opinion is brand loyalism and a hate for the other.

for the record i have both because i want to be able to play any game i want

And what if you could only afford one Lebo? Which one?

Id choose the xbox because i like the controllers a LOT more and i already have a couple of stand alone bluray players or maybe because i'm an xbox fanboy

I was confronted with decision the other week and I chose the PS3 for this reason.

Wanted a Blu Ray player and free online is always handy if you ever want to play online. Xbox has it's positives too. For one it's controller feels better although I can deal with the PS3 one, it's just not as good though. With the Xbox online you get what you pay for and it's more stable and less buggy than the PS3 online from what I hear. Both have positives and negatives. Ask 10 people you'll get 5 saying PS3 5 saying Xbox. Choose what you think best suits you.

Whatever.

Maybe that's due to the machine doing about 5 x times the functions of a stand alone player.

Well it would only be doing one thing whilst playing blu-ray movies. The point is - I wouldn't get it for the blu-ray player I'd get it for the games.
