i changed my mind 3 times in 36 hours (no, yes, no). I just can't do it. I acknowledge phones have GPS devices and can be tracked, but I just can't trust this government with the data. I need a lot more convincing.

I'm the same as you, at this stage I just don't trust that data from phone won't end up in the wrong hands.

Being retired I have changed my behaviour a lot , I exercise in the morning in an isolated area, and when I go to the supermarket I don't muck around, grab what we need and then home again.

If the the virus was still rampant I would download it, but at this stage I'm going to wait awhile.

I don't think the app accesses GPS on your phone, only bluetooth. As I understand the tech, using bluetooth, they can only detect if your phone was near someone else's phone, not where you were when your phones were near each other.

Google and Apple on the other hand probably have intricate data on where you are at all times, and sells it to private corporations for advertisement.

Registered no problem. I don't get the angst about privacy for a government app. Service providers and ISP know exactly what you are searching for and viewing and where you are. Google, Youtube, Facebook and the like target ads to you based on your likes and views. Netflix, Stan, Hulu, SBS on demand know what you stream. Dominos logs your IP address and locatio when you order online. Banks and CC companies know what you purchase and when. Police are scanning your plates, CCTV in so many places. Phone and photo apps geo tagging and with facial recognition, people recording and taking photos of everything including you in the background.

I aint no private citizen. We are way past the point of no return. Your details are in a hundred different databases. Privacy is an illusion maintained by some pseudo academics.

Does anyone read the Google and Apple Terms and Conditions and what you are actually agreeing to?

Haha, good one. I just googled Google's T&Cs. They include this beauty: 'don’t abuse or harm others or yourself ". I'd wager self abuse is in the top 3 things people do when they're using the internet :))

i don't disagree. we give away privacy to many companies we don't know about. but what I do know is that a government i don't trust might be able access my private data with this. when you have a home affairs minister that claims "parliament is an impediment to the government of the day," it worries me.

Thanks Baloo.

Out of all that the company got hold of personal info and then was able to direct targeted info to that person to "influence" that person. What is absent from that is the base line of what that individual person would have done anyway without the "influence" being applied. Would they have acted the same way regardless? If undecided would they have still reached the same decision? and overall would the end result be any different in most cases?

Without the base line you don't get full understanding of the real benefit. All political parties for decades have used some form of data mining for their campaigns. Other industries also use data mining to target advertising. The problem here is that this company got an advantage from illegally acquiring the data from Facebook. The organizations should have made enquiries into where they got the info.

On my survey of one I don't think their efforts influenced my vote.

They only targeted those they believed could be influenced.

Watch The Great Hack on Netflix. It goes into the Cambridge Analytica influence on Brexit, Trumps Election and a few others.

A real opener.

For those struggling with this request........try this on for size.
Download the App, close your eyes and take a deep breath, then open your eyes and breath normally. Arhhh there you go well done its not that bad, be in it for us all. Delete it once the virus is over.
For those who wont do it because you hang around seedy brothels and dont want your better half finding out, what easier way to create the perfect alibi. Leave your phone at home, or in the church.
Get on board.

I doubt she would approve of me going to a church.

Come to think of it, neither would I ;)
