Half your luck if you are one but I just paid almost $400 to a plumber this morning to unblock my toilet for 1.5 hours work.
They're earning more than doctors and lawyers these days.
The country needs to import more skilled labourers. Prices are spiralling out of control for tradies.
Ridiculous.

1.5 hours work, what about travel there, travel back, materials, plant etc etc
When was last time you went to a doctor $95.00 for 10 minutes was mine, thats $570.00 per hour & no vehicle or travel

Im a sparky mate, King of all trades !!!

Anyway it probably is expensive for a plumber as they only need to learn 2 things during their apprenticeship
1- Poo flows downhill
2- Dont chew your fingernails

Bet you never blocked a Thai dunny during your tour Tooheys.

Think you need to get back on the Som Tum. Eye of the needle stuff that.

Heh heh heh white collar workers always whinge about blue collar workers charge out rates when lawyers, consultants and the like charge themselves out at ridiculously high hourly rates plus also all sorts of fabricated disbursements.

Haha CMT. One of the things I loved about Thailand was that you could get things fixed cheap and that wasn't to do with the power of the Aussie dollar either.

They're doing that so as they can afford their plumber to fix their dunny. ;D
Is there such a thing as 'blue collar' these days jimbob? Where I live all the tradies seem to own the waterfront property (well the plumbers do anyway).

ouch, probably 50-80 bucks over the odds, which is always annoying. Generally when you need someone fast an unexpected you get gauged a little. Generally I try to get mates or mates of mates, and/or let em know you're getting another price. Obviously you just wanted your dunny fixed so that didn't apply.

I'm about to get a rotting facia board fixed. I could do it but don't have time and it would take me 4 times as long as a builder. Costing me $700! $200 of that is getting the power disconnected at the pole because it connects to the facia, and thats a cashy!. It never ends.

I used to be a tradey so I can see both sides.

Absolute bargain. I have to get a power pole moved 1metre to make way for a new driveway crossover...... $20,000!

Mexican or Indian food will do that to your toilet pipes.

Gotta cut back on those Salsas burritos.

BTW I have a chippy working for me all day tomorrow for $400.
Fair difference. Good money in sh!t that's for sure.

Tradies, a law unto themselves. I've been trying to get someone to do my driveway for 4 months. Tried at least a dozen different guys. They either dont return calls, dont turn up or when they do turn up I never hear back from them. Then claim how hard times are at the moment!

I have a friend who needs to get a water connection to his property. Involves laying about 60m of pipe along a gravel road up a slight hill to his property.

Cost $95,000.

But the best bit is, the people across the road do not want to share the cost. However, they or future owners of the property can apparently hook up at a later date, and not pay for anything other than the connection to the pipe that will already be in place.

Start digging streak. Will reduce your cost significantly!

That would buy a lot of tanks and a few pumps. I would be looking into that.
