I thought we might get some conversation going on who we should be targetting with our other 3 picks.

What are peoples thoughts on Jason Pongracic?

If we go for a Garner type with pick 9 I would like us to land someone like Pongracic with one of our later picks. With our reliance on Tuck, he could be one who fills that void in 12-24months times when Tucky moves on. Pongracic also has that flexibility in playing in the forward 50 similar to how we play Martin and Cotchin.

There's some footage on him on afl.com
Looks a very handy type.

For me, Atkins, Sumner, Pongracic would be the ideal outcome either way if we go Garner or Vlastuin.

We need to get three mids and one tall from this draft period, with the tall probably coming from one of these picks. The midfielders that we need to find long-term replacements for are Tuck and Foley. Hence we need one or two big-bodied inside ruck-rover types and one or two nippy rovers.

I like the look of Shane Nelson for that rover role, especially as he is a year older and has some track record in the WAFL. From the National Championships, Nathan Hrovat stood out to me as a player who will become an excellent accumulator in the AFL but I suspect he won't get past Collingwood's three first-round picks. He is exactly the type that they draft, unfortunately.

I liked Vlastuin from the championships and also Adam Carter from WA. Pongracic looks a likely type for us as well.

I saw a couple of Frankston games on TV this year and I wouldn't mind Khan Haretaku as another CHF option.

Personally think we should take 4 mids or guys that can rotate mid/forward to get some depth in this area unless a gun slides way past where expected. Don't think we need a junior KPP. Need to see if Astbury/Elton/Griffiths can stand up. Maybe a KPD like Harley Walshe at 43 who is tall, quick and agile to develop for the future.

You're right Haretuku would be an option to play CHF as well as 2nd ruck to back-up Vickery. Justin Hardy from Centrals is another who could fill that mature void at CHF until someone develops. Both I think are more rookie prospects and fit the bill for what we are trying to do with the rookie list.

Next draft I'd start targeting our next generation of talls once our midfield is finished.

After checking out the 'combine' results, what are people's thoughts on Adam Saad?

Apparently he comes across as a bit melancholy in interviews - needs to cheer up a bit.

very much so. But he's a port boy and they have 2 picks before us! Fml
Yeah fair point. I knew there was a reason why the AFL appointed their 2 priority picks before us!

Who would you take first if you had a choice out of Atkins and Pongracic?

Ideally I would love to have both however I can see Essendon snatching one of them with their 2nd round pick.

Sam Lowrie, under rated.

I don't think he'll get to our picks in the real thing, but's he an option and a really good one.
Do you see him as late first rounder/early second?

I'll probably put him in the late teens to 20's in my mock. Really good inside mid that is is a very good kick and 187cm. Big body.

Didn't get a lot of game time at the Champs which was a semi-good thing, and didn't play 100% mid, but when he did he was effective. I think it was game 4 he had 6 clearances from 50 odd percent game time.

Averaged 24 possessions in the Colts this season from 11 games including a very good Grand Final.

Things that appeal to me;

-187cm
-Inside/out mid
-Above average kick
-Clears it

We desperately lack quality inside mids.

Vlastuin/Macrae/Stringer/O'Rourke/Grundy/Wines at 9, 2 of Lowrie/Atkins/Pongracic/Boston/Broomhead/Hrovat at 32 and 34 and Daniel Currie/Jack Hannath at 43 is my dream draft.

I'm a big Atkins fan. Wouldn't be against takin both before essendon gt a crack tho.

I'm not being smart but what are you basing that on?
