That we have already replaced Hayden Hill after he went to the GC last month is a good sign
No idea on Jacob Wilson but a fresh set of eyes and expertise is a positive
Well if The Ooze wants a new oppo analyst then he could do worse than Zips.

"His *smile*!"
"His a cat"
Plus assorted butchering of names!

You should apply Zips!

except when we play the cats...
The entire analysis would be
"We gave them the pick for Holmes and his a star. Why cant we have a player like him?"

Darcy Wilson wins St Kilda 3km time trial. Impressive effort.

Perfect club for him to go to, need his skill set.

Yeah, I get the feeling the more experienced players Don’t go at 100% in these trials. Maybe they know there’s no reward and hold back a bit? we fairly regularly read of first year players excelling in them and we think “oh wow, this 18 year old first year player is fitter than his experienced team mates” but I get the feeling there’s more to it.

Yes, you would imagine it's very individualised, with each player having their own target time for the time trial taking into account loadings, body composition etc. You would expect the younger players without as much bulk/muscle mass would be at an advantage at the time trial for example...

Quite the opposite and you'll find that experienced players win it, Tarranto won ours, Robbie Fox won Sydney, Bailey Smith Dogs, Brandone Ellis Suns.

The older players would hate a rookie coming and showing them up. It's competitive as can be and is normally the first thing done on at training for the new season. Sets the tone.

And on WIlson's win, this from the St Kild website, Darcy Wilson has taken out this year’s three-kilometre time trial in just his second week at the club, spearheading a young top-five who performed strongly at the full squad’s first official day of pre-season.

i reckon i read 27 players did the trial, including some who arent on their list yet, so maybe 15 didnt, including Brad Hill, Jack Steele, Wood, Butler, and a couple more of their seniors.

Still a good effort tho.

You will never get full squad doing it, blokes always in rehab or away. If St Kilda calls it full squad back at training it's a full squad effort.

Gold Coast is one of the most interesting sides for 2024. The new coach. The four inclusions.

Read* is the kind of ruck Dogwick likes. Ground presence. Not much at tapwork. But he's young and a physical cipher at this stage. Witts a tap ruck. That aint a Hardwick thing. Ned Moyle is the other ruck on the list. If Witts goes down Read may be thrown to the wolves. Read is not strong at tap. Not his caper. There is a possibility that he'll be routed. Ruck rout leads to game loss. It is a disaster. Hmm. It's an interesting situation.

If Read can sweat he'll play. He's not a big guy. If he gets routed (cannot influence the grass the other ruck chooses) he will lose games. And will be demoted.

Hardwick has to develop Read to nullify the other ruck. And quickly. And likewise Moyle.

If Read starts he start forward and changes ruck. That's one tall in the forward line. Pressure on the exisiting forwards. Questions about the shape of GCS because it looks like they will have to play three tall forwards.

Because Walter starts. If he doesn’t he can’t sweat. He shapes as a better player than Atrosius and as a true tall. He’ll probably never be big enough or jump high enough to own the I50 alone but King can spread things a bit and can work at 30m from goal. And as we've seen Read may have to play then it would probably be mainly forward.

Dimma is kick impaired. We all know that. He doesn’t know that Atrosius can’t kick. He hates Atrosius because he’s a flanker not because he can't kick. Atrosius can improve. And has. I'll be interested to see how this pans out.

The addition of two emerging talls will change the GCS shape. Who plays where and what they do.

Rogers starts. Almost certainly forward changing mid. He will be given every chance to develop. He can kick a goal and Dogwick cherishes that. And he plays two-way. So even if he's not getting enough ball he can impact the game. Everybody likes that.

If Rogers plays somebody else misses out. Rowell can struggle in the defensive running formations. Likewise Anderson. Who may end up at HBF anyway. Sam Flanders will defend. Football will be played. The heat is coming.

Mids like Fiorini and Davies look doomed to me but they always did. Weller will feel the heat. Long won't play. Brandon will probably hang in there while they develop a replacement.

And that brings us to Will Graham. To get a game he has to get a kick. I take it as certain that he will play two-way football. And that Dogwick will love him. All he has to do is get a kick and he's in. More heat.

If he can add say four new starters to the lineup Dogwick will field players who know only his way of AFL football. He will have begun a major cultural change. And reset the standards of the incumbents. So expect him to do it ASAP.

*"Read" means Ethan Read. Not Harley Reid or Archer Reid or any other Reid. For now. And FWIW I think Read could take longest to develop and get a regular game.

Well at least King is trying to keep the prìck honest!

Rozee doesn't strike me as captaincy material... too much falling over for frees... then again we've got Dangerflop, had serial stagers like Shuey and Zorko... so I suppose he's their man.

Well done Kingy. Looking forward to the 5 year old's excuses on this one. Doesn't strike me as much of a leader also....could be a jumping the shark situation at Port just like Carr under Hinkley for 2 years. I smell a bad season coming up.....feel sorry for Ivan.

Port Sours have added Zerk-Spatula, Halfa Defender-goula and Ivan "I've never rucked a season Solo"-do to get them over the premiership hurdle.

It doesn't give me much confidence. Any chance the blokes getting tens of thousands of dollars can show up in a final?

If they’re only getting ‘tens of thousands of dollars’ that’s probably why they’re not turning up. 😂

Wage theft at Port Bogelaide!

Jeez Jack you must be watching another lukosius than the one I have been if you reckon he can’t kick

Unfortunately the little frown improved in 2023, Sin. He was using shorter and actually looking for a target. And his goal kicking went apeshit. That said I'm hopeful he returns to type next year after Dogwick has tortured him.

FWIW I think Dimma may have to move him back. The pre season will tell us plenty about the GCS shape.

I really like Lukosius as a player but I agree about his position. I would play him CHB
