North want to leave the Docklands and play home games at the G

You'd have to clean up the moccasins, teeth, stubbies, condoms, etc - and that's just on the ground - before asny game could be played there.

Me being the know it all that I am have said for years that the AFL should have kept Princes Park (ignore the Carlton thing) for low drawing games such as when Freo and Port visit here – you only need about 10,000 -12,000 there to make a profit and you could stop playing those games at Docklands that bleed the clubs money.

The AFL were stupid enough to create a stadium duopoly and then they are surprised when these stadiums try and use their market power to effectively drive up prices (i.e. amount they make) – what did they expect?! It is just not efficient to be playing games at huge stadiums that are only ever going to draw 20,000 tops, which makes North's request even moe bizarre.

This situation has been a long time coming.

yep good post. been saying the same thing for years. blame collo for closing down PP. guess where he works now? ::)

Don't flatter yourself
Isn't it in our favour to play a home game at a neutral ground instead of the opponents home ground?

:) There were several other jabs at us too earlier in the thread ;)

I never have quite comprehended the thinking of those mad people who despise Etihad because "It's not the G" ... Yet in the next breath claim they would "prefer to play interstate than Etihad"

& yes to whoever posted the statement ... If it came down to a choice between all at Etihad or 1 in Darwin ... Etihad is in Melbourne, Darwin is not. We should reward all our loyal supporters in the Western Suburbs by playing games on their side of town ;D ;)

So you'd be supportive of clubs who play us at the 'G regardless of the fact they are Etihad based clubs, at interstate locations due to them giving away home ground advantage to us at the 'G?

Depends on if its their choice or not. Plenty of Etihad tenent clubs request to play at the G for the bigger blockbuster games. I'm supportive of clubs getting games scheduled at the home ground of their choice.
Every year we ask the AFL to schedule all of our home games at the G, every year we play home games at Etihad against Etihad tenant clubs.

North would be better off having 4 home games per year at the G against us, Pies, Blue and Bombers then selling their remaining 7 interstate.

They are a basket case financially, I feel for their supporters and Board trying to make it work out from a P/L perspective. They really ought to have re-located to the GC or WS. Perhaps Tassie may be their option.

So you'd be supportive if we lost 2 of our blockbuster games because Etihad tenants chose not to play us on our home ground? ;)

Why would it bother me where our opposition chooses to play their home games?

i do agree that we have no right to argue as to where our 11 away games are played. but what about if you're a 17 game member? i'm betting you're not a 17 game member, right ZG?

how many of you 17 game members out there were able to obtain a ticket to the away game at geelong in round 2? or following on from MT's point, what if you're a 17 game member and the next time essendon is the home team for the dreamtime game, they ask to have it scheduled at etihad, meaning there are limited tix for richmond supporters? is it a buyer beware argument for 17 game members? and will this type of thing encourage 17 game members to drop back to the standard 11 games? and what will that mean to the club in terms of revenue?

My son and I are 17 game members and had no trouble getting in to the Cattery the last three times we've played there.

YT, i got a ticket to the geelong game too, but from what i heard, there were only a few hundred tickets available for the 17 game members.

i guess i'm going off topic and on a bit of a tangent here. i'm not making any argument at all as to what should be done with our away games. once again i will reiterate we have no power to influence where our away games are played (i mean we're not collingwood ). all i'm really querying is where will it leave us 17 game members in the future if my above scenario materialises?

I don't care what North Melbourne do it is all just a time wasting event until the club either collapses and disappears or relocates to Tasmania. So long as we play all our home games at the MCG which is what should happen anyway.

I used to be an 17-18 game away member with an A level Reserved seat, however not the past two years. I can't justify it any more given I've been paying off two substantial mortgages on a single income and do quite a bit of work on weekends.
I just think we're spoilt given how many Melbourne clubs there are in the league. The fans for 6 teams in the AFL only get 11-12 games in their state every year. There aren't many sports in the world that have most teams play so many away games at home. I think its a tad selfish to demand we play every game in Melbourne, even if its at our opponents home ground, and turn down extra financial stability for doing so.
