Noah Balta - Welcome to Tigerland

mckay will make many defenders look ordinary this year
Good player but every time I watch him play I get ‘Super tall Tivendale’ vibes. It’s the way he moves on a massive left sided arc and launches a magnificent looking kick. The only question is ‘Will he miss on the left or on the right?’

Love him a a player otherwise.

He was awful on Thursday night. Not sure he is a true defender.
I reckon we build up his engine and play him as a Kouta/Goodes type.

Hasn’t really progressed as a player has Balta but the coaches keep giving him more responsibility hence his deficiencies are getting exposed.

Ideally, he’d go back to being third tall defender/relief ruck where he has played his best football. This would depend on Tarrant or someone stepping up and taking the best forward which is not a given.

Longer term, there are problems here. He’s a key position player that can’t really hold down a key position right now. He hasn’t really improved in any significant way after five years in the system and that’s a big red flag as far as I’m concerned. If, and it’s a big if, others like Gibcus and maybe even Young stepped up, I’d be looking seriously at putting Balta up for trade to help us get back into this years draft.

I suspect Notorius is as blessed athletically,

As he is deprived cerebrally.

He needs it kept very simple,

And Full-Back is as simple as it gets.

Hell be a very good full-back if they leave him there.

McKay is a pretty good player and not sure anyone else could have played on him and done any better. He did keep him to 1.2 so that was a positive.

He'll keep playing.

Agree. Yes, he has struggled in the last 12-18 months but so have all our taller backs. We’ve lost key experienced players through retirement and injury.

Grimes, Tarrant and Gibcus are the ones we now look to. But we need more bigger bodies like Balta and Miller, both of whom have enormous potential, to compete against the top team attacks. It would also help if we can grab a gem from the mid-season draft!

Our half-backs, mids and wings are all looking as good as ever. What needs most work right now is sorting out our forward half cohesion and conversion rates. Our coaching team will get it sorted soon.

I thought Balta played pretty well. He played behind McKay and pushed him out to the wings. Seemed like a plan. He does have a habit of completely dropping his concentration, but he kept McKay out of goal scoring positions pretty well.

Our whole backline played well. Mids pretty decent too. We have a wonky forward line which needs readjustmentand we're missing some class and run delivering into it. I wouldn't be stressing about the backline.

Balta was ok. He got plenty of support but only got lost a few times.

That our short talls had to work so hard to defend air is the reason Curnow found a little bit of space at times. And kicked a couple of brilliant goals. But for that brilliance he kicks 1, from a set shot.

We looked structurally better than I expected and but for a few terrible bungles, mainly up the ground, might have kept a tidier defensive scoresheet.

Balta looked fresh and moved freely.

I am with you CT.

Apart from a 10 minute patch in the 3rd quarter where McKay had 2 shots on goal within the space of a few minutes he kept relatively ineffective.

Not sure anyone on our list would have done any better.

Genuinely shocked that people are giving Balta any type of a thumbs up for last week. He was awful. There was no strategic plan.

He copped a good old fashion hiding, it happens. Not the end of the world but he needs to get better.

Agree.

I have a theory.
I've seen him wearing glasses.
I think he can't see properly/clearly.
Must be wearing contacts.
Can anyone confirm this?

Maybe needs to get tapped on the shoulder to visit the specialist.
If it's good enough for The One Game Wonder American oops Australian!
Get a customized set of swim goggles.
Just a theory.

He does wear glasses when he’s not playing. Maybe he could do a Blevins?

Surely if that was the case they'd already be onto it.

If it is a vision thing would be interesting to compare his night games with day games and see if there is any significant drop in concentration and performance.

Yeh, I've got a Croat mate and he said the worst thing that can happen is they give him too many instructions and give him too much time to think. He says that about most Croats!

Reckons just let him play on instinct and he'll be fine.
