Nick Vlastuin

Hopefully Dimma gives up the silly idea of playing him forward. I think it contributed to his lack of impact on games and also his confidence. He just looks so much more comfortable off the backline.

His 1st quarter especially was fantastic, he was everywhere in the backline, mopping up the mess that others had made. He does it with little fanfare, but is very efficient. He was very much missed while he was out injured.

Great game Nick, actually thought he was in our best 3 on the day.

Statistically the first quarter was his worst. He was just consistent all day. He had 13 intercepts and 5 intercept marks. Huge day out.

Imo Statistics don't always paint a true picture, I just watched the replay & Nick was very good in the 1st quarter.

but what's he do that's rare and exceptional that other teams will convince themselves they have to have? He's got many great attributes, but he's a specialist back flanker who doesn't break lines, get a lot of touches or take the oppositions best player.
He's the rock that fills the hole down back. Excellent reader of the incoming ball, hard as nails n super composed decision maker.
Flossy floating around a kick, kick n a half behind play allows the likes of Tross man, Grub, *smile* n Bash to go exploring further up the ground safe in the knowledge that Flossy has them covered when there's a nasty turnover rebound that we're so good at.

That should be the standard every week.

12 disposals a game is not good enough.

The team needs much more offensive output from him off HB.

Spot on. Needs to watch footage of Corey Enright.

Look no doubt he's a decent player, particularly when floating as a 3rd man to the defensive contest, but I just don't think he's the type that other teams are going to 'make an offer we can't refuse'

If he keeps playing like that, and remembering he was starring and standout BOG when he went down during the Bulldogs game, he might be stepping up to star status. If he does, look out, huge.

Other teams generally make an offer that can't be refused to elite players or potential stars. Doubt Flossy will ever get categorised as such, but it's the system, structure n support role he brings to our defence that makes him so valuable to us. Plays a core structural role for us similar to probably a Vandenberg Hawks, Maxwell Colonwood, Harley Geelong. Does the nuts n bolts work in the back half while Tross plays his superman role.
Reckon Grub floats as third man more often, Flossy just hides in the holes n stands under the incoming, he's always been fairly strong n reliable in our defence, against GWS he was massive.

Vlossy is a defender first and foremost. The midfield experiment didn't really work out. But that's ok, let's play him on his strength and where he's most comfortable.
The defensive line of Rance, Astbury, Grimes and Vlossy is as strong a quartet in the league going around.
If Vlossy plays against Freo and GWS, those losses become wins.
Welcome back Nick.

Need to rename the Richmond back line... "The Wall". Dylan "Bran" Grimes. Nick "Tormund" Vlastuin. Dave "Brienne" Astbury (awkward silences are a thing with them) and Alex "Jon Snow" Rance.

Winter is coming.

I've avoided David Astbury since I called him 'Kamdyn' at the B&F dinner a couple years ago.

I always think Nick is more of a chance of kicking a goal when he sneaks up from the backline.
I'd really like to see Dylan, Shorty and Nick ping a few goals from here on, we just might kick over 11 goals in a game. :(

I don't disagree but I thought he was great the whole match, not just especially in the first quarter,
