NFL & NCAA Football Threads

The much hyped Caleb Williams not looking so good right now.

Is it just me or do NFL teams go way too hard way too early with first round quarterbacks?

They go through them like Mr Burnside and a bucket of KFC. For every CJ Stroud there seems to be a dozen more Trey Lance's.
It is intersting, below is where some of the current best QB were drafted -

Mahomes - Pick 10
Allen - Pick 7 (Baker-Mayfield went at 1 & Darnold at Pick 3 same draft)
L Jackson - Pick 32
Goff - Pick 1 (surprised to read Goff is 6'4)
Burrow - Pick 1
Hurts - Pick 53
Murray - Pick 1
Stroud - Pick 2
Tua - Pick 5
Herbert - Pick 6
Darnold - Pick 3
B-Mayfield - Pick 1

Mahomes/Jackson/Allen/Burrow/Hurts/Murray/Stroud/Tua/Herbert all with the teams that drafted them so they have stuck fat.

Goff/B-M & Darnold all with other teams now and doing well.

I suppose there are only so many positions avaialable and many more drafted than there are vacant positions. There are 4 or 5 drafted in 1st round each year?

Having a great O-Line is almost as important as the QB themselves.

Look at Rodgers (ignoring the fact he is past it), his O-Line is just awful. I doubt any QB would be doing well behind that wall.

Weekly report kept short this week as there is big news regarding week 11.

Week 10 has been completed and there really is very little to report. No bonus points this week.

So we may as well take advantage and tip on 2 sets of games.

First game is Friday our time. With fairness in mind we will tip on all 3 games in the first set by Friday 12:20pm. These games will be posted on Thursday morning.
Second set of games will be posted at normal time of Friday morning and won’t need to be tipped on until 8am Monday.

Tagging everyone now, and again when games posted on Thursday, so nobody should miss.

Ironically, the Bears sack their OC.

Pretty brutal the NFL. Like the EPL, they sack coaches/managers like there's no tomorrow. We think it's cut throat in the AFL ? Meh....those leagues are 5 x more cut throat.

Williams is trying to do what he did in college - hold onto the football long enough to make the amazing play. That just doesn't work in the NFL. The defenses are way too good.

He looks great on a highlight reel, but he needs to just dink and dunk his way down the field - 7 yards here, 6 yards there. Keep the chains moving. It's not spectacular, but these are what wins football games.

Also, NFL teams give starts to rookie QBs straight away instead of letting them develop and learn as backups for a year.

That's true for OC's and DC's. They're the true scapegoats.

Head coaches get more leniency, but nowhere near as much as AFL coaches.

Yep. College football is a high scoring shoot out for the most part because defense isn't so good. The NFL is the polar opposite.

You then throw these QB's in the deep end by making them the starter in their first year, and that's bound to have a high volume of car crashes.

Yeah, I recall when Peyton Manning played in the NFL in his first year. He kept throwing interceptions and couldn't understand why.

He told one of his teammates (paraphrasing) 'I'm throwing it to where the defenders can't get to it'.

And his teammate replies 'It's the NFL - they can all get to it'.

Yeh, they have had some good discussion about this on The Pat Mac show. Rodgers is on all the time and is pretty good to listen to. As well as Bellichik.

They basically preach a pretty conservative style of football to win games. If you do not have a very very good running game your passing game becomes so much harder.

Agree with Red about College football, most defense is pretty poor - missed tackles, poor pressure etc etc. A big change when you come to the NFL.

Yep, that's why there's so many thrashings especially when FBS teams play the FCS teams.

Out of 32 teams in the NFL only 13 have a better than .500 record.

I reckon there are 4 decent teams and the rest range from BOG average to downright ordinary.

Our first set of matches for week 11 are as follows.

Washington Commanders (+4.5) @ Philadelphia Eagles (-4.5) 12:15pm Fri Nov 15th
Baltimore Ravens (-3.5) @ Pittsburgh Steelers (+3.5) 5am Mon Nov 18th
Seattle Seahawks (+6.5) @ San Francisco 49ers (-6.5) 8:05am Mon Nov 18th

Tips to be submitted for all games by 12:15pm Friday.

Second set of games will be posted tomorrow around 9am as usual.
