Hardwick has my support and hopefully he's the man but I'll wait and see what unfolds before crowing from the rooftops.

So you'll wait and see what happens - good or bad - and then start crowing. Isn't this a bit of a cop out?
That's too easy and you'll be an expert in hindsight. (Only thing is - you won't be able to say "I told you so" - because you won't have. You'd have sat on the fence instead!)

Better to give an opinion now - and back it up.
Tell us what you reckon: Is he the man - or isn't he?

FWIW - I reckon he is!

Who made you boss?

I think at a time like this it's important to pay big thanks to the Board and Steven Wright for the hard work they have put in to make our club attractive again to coaching candidates. It would have been no fun deciding between Brian Royal & David Bourke for our coach.

Great Post DD, but this line in particular summed it up. We have put up with a bit of pain over recent times enduring, well best I say average coaches, but the installation of new managment and some real stability in the off field side of the house is now starting to reap the benefits. Remember when we appointed Spud, because he was the last man standing. Bomber Thompson wouldn't even walk into Punt Road, a sacked Ken Judge didn't want to know us,

Then Wallace come along and happily topped up his super fund the only way he knew how.................PAIN

But what a turn around, a board that has turned around a 2 million dollar loss into annual 6 figure profits..............a long list of applicants for a coached job once considered the place where angels feared to tread.

We had a quality list of candidates and right to the last bell we had two quality candidates fighting for the honour of the Coach of the Richmond Football club

and to top it all off the Media had no idea until the decision was actually made

A fantastic job by all concerned. :clap :clap :clap :clap

At least the club appears to be working to a systematic, structured plan.
No guarantees that things will work out but there appears to be method to the madness instead of just blind guess work.
The next twelve months will be very interesting watching the big hard wick implement his systems and developing how he wants the team to play.
No big expectations for 2010 but I want to be able to head into 2011 with a big cheesy grin on the dial knowing that the team is heading in the right direction.

I concur most heartily Gussie and DD. :clap

Beavis, it's Beavis.

Of course it's Beavis.

A new beginning it is, and to add to DD's speech, I just want to add we should also include the RFC in our prayers every night.

This post is not about crowing from the rooftops. It is about supporting our club's attempt to change and reinvent itself and it's 'culture'. DD is saying, let's change OUR culture as supporters and PREnders as well. Let's stop sticking the boots in for a while, lets stop critisising the club for all the mistakes that are in the past. Lets get behind the club and and look forward to better times. Our support will promote stabilility and confindence in the club from the board down to the boot studder and most importantly the team. There could be nothing worse than going out to play knowing your own fans think you are a DUD. Let's can it and let the club make the calls it has to make and then support the list we have.

Joking mate, don't take it to heart.
I'll be waiting as well. God, I hope we've got it right.
( I think we need a "praying" emoticon)

I was being a bit mischevious too - just having a dig at waiting till afterwards before giving an opinion.
Mind you - there's nothing wrong with hindsight.
I used to think Harwick was a square jawed dumb boofhead.
Now all of a sudden - I reckon I reckon he's smooth, suave and sophisticated.

But as I said - and FWIW - I reckon he'll be a ripper.

This is something people need to remember. I am one who thinks the process approach has been fantastic, but we still need to wait and see if the process itself was the right one.

If most people get their way & we have a full scale cleanout,we must be patient & not expect it to happen overnight. We have a crap list & to do this properly is going to take some effort & patience.Go Damien, welcome to Tigerland!

Like everything in life, the proof is in the pudding.

However to this point the club seems to have done everything right.

A new beginning, not just because of Hardwick and Gale, but because the club has finally realised that it needs to provide the resources to allow the club to succeed. Only about 10yrs late, but better late than never.

Seems to be some real leadership around the club, mostly management. I believe it will start to filter onto the field.
I don't know if Stiffy (Hardwick) can coach or not, but there is a positive professional vibe around Punt Rd.
Where was the captain during all this coach press conf?

Absolutely wrapped we finally have our Coach settled and we can now move on with rolling up our sleeves and getting some real systems into our football department.

I've read plenty of reserved opinions and people wanting to wait and see and not get too excited and most certainly understand such caution...

BUT STUFF THAT!

I support Richmond Football Club for good times, I'm not going to let my fears and our collective obvious concerns dilute my enjoyment or positive sentiments for the future. Obviously you have to have strategic plans and substance behind your actions, but you don't get anywhere without positive thought. That's our job as supporters, to SUPPORT the club and give them every little bit of momentum and support we can offer from our wallets/purses and cheers from the stands.

I don't want to sit back now as an intellectual misery puss and take delight in flaming our past mistakes with a speaker phone and magnifying glass.

This club is making a very strong focus on white washing the past and developing a new culture that does not focus on negativity, finger pointing and individuals. That alone is something to jump on and support, not to mention get excited about.

Hardwick not only comes from an excellent pedigree but has shone the brightest after a exhausting process. I want to get excited and focus on the positive, we don't get a lot to get excited about at Punt Road, which is why so many tiger supporters become trade and draft experts. :hihi

I'm looking forward to reading and hearing in detail, in the days and weeks to come, about Hardwicks plans for the team.

We have put into place some really exciting leadership with Gale & Hardwick and my gut feel is that at the very least these guys will be integral to greatly improving our club with the support of our highly achieving Board.

Obviously most of us are limited in our knowledge from the outside and none of us have crystal balls, but I want to enjoy and savour these times. There is no shame in failing if you have tackled things intelligently and with positivity and loyalty.

I think at a time like this it's important to pay big thanks to the Board and Steven Wright for the hard work they have put in to make our club attractive again to coaching candidates. It would have been no fun deciding between Brian Royal & David Bourke for our coach.

Let's support the club with the same positive focus on the future the club has and finally put the past behind us. Obviously we cannot truly do that until we see the results out on the field, however I just feel there is no point on continuing to sniff the spilt milk.

We don't need to overhype things and talk about finals and such nonsense. We just need some good ole fashioned loyalty, trust in each other, positivity and hard work. If we can do that the success will come. GO TIGES! Let's get the MCG rocking again and start to hear the gutteral growls from Punt Road directed outward, instead of inward for a change.

P.S: Getting a new Coach to replace the Wallace regime was a fantastic birthday present for me this weekend. :hihi

agreed DD, I reckon Tommy hafey would be pretty proud of this appointment, we'll be more tigrish than a wounded tiger :hihi

Hardwick is a good appointment via an appropriately extensive selection process but he is not a miracle worker.
The list depth is still the worst in the AFL and we start the rebuild behind the Demons and Freo.
But at least we can now make a start.
That's the heartening aspect for me: finally the club joins the real world of AFL.
I have no expectations of finals for some years but I certainly feel better about the outlook than I have for ages.
Off-field is now sorted with largely good quality people in the right places; on-field can follow.
Go Tiges.

Agree 100%. Good Post.
