As a proud member of our great club, I think it is important all us, from the president, to the coach, to the bootstudder, to the fans, to embrace this new beginning which is bigger than our new coach, and that seems to have been a systematic overhaul of a flawed system. Lets pay up, be positive, accept our pain and change our/ the psyche of our club from a mindset of failure and greed, and self-serving meglomaniacs (and you know who you are), narcissists, and reactionary supporters, to a mindset of hard work, high standards, patience and success. We are the tiger army. And then, in years to come, lets stick it right up 'em!

Re: New Beginning

We have a new CEO and a new coach. The future looks bright. This is our new beginning. Bring on 2010!

Re: New Beginning

Agree giallo. As Gary March said on 774 recently we have a losing culture and it tends to one of blame. Time to move on, we all know how crap we've been but we can't change that, and embrace the future.

I'll be e-mailing Gary to congratulate him and the board on the way they've handled our coaching situation and wish them well for the future.

I'll be e-mailing Damien to welcome him to the RFC and wish him all the best.

I'll be e-mailing Benny too, all on behalf of PRE as well as myself personally.

I hope in some way, everyone including the Board, the administration, the players, the staff and the supporters are united in re-building our club and making us a force to be reckoned with once more.

The past can't be changed but we can certainly all influence our future in some small way. For the first time in ages I am really looking forward to renewing our memberships, rather than just doing it out of duty, in readiness for next season.

Right on. I have been a supporter since 1966 and a member since the Save our Skins period and believe that we have at last realised that success is not based on one person but on many people working hard, sharing a vision, making sacrifice and enjoying the journey. We have started on that journey and started well, but there will be much pain and many false steps requiring effort to get back on track. I am willing to be patient if we keep up the right direction.

Let's hear some growls!

Absolutely wrapped we finally have our Coach settled and we can now move on with rolling up our sleeves and getting some real systems into our football department.

I've read plenty of reserved opinions and people wanting to wait and see and not get too excited and most certainly understand such caution...

BUT STUFF THAT!

I support Richmond Football Club for good times, I'm not going to let my fears and our collective obvious concerns dilute my enjoyment or positive sentiments for the future. Obviously you have to have strategic plans and substance behind your actions, but you don't get anywhere without positive thought. That's our job as supporters, to SUPPORT the club and give them every little bit of momentum and support we can offer from our wallets/purses and cheers from the stands.

I don't want to sit back now as an intellectual misery puss and take delight in flaming our past mistakes with a speaker phone and magnifying glass.

This club is making a very strong focus on white washing the past and developing a new culture that does not focus on negativity, finger pointing and individuals. That alone is something to jump on and support, not to mention get excited about.

Hardwick not only comes from an excellent pedigree but has shone the brightest after a exhausting process. I want to get excited and focus on the positive, we don't get a lot to get excited about at Punt Road, which is why so many tiger supporters become trade and draft experts. :hihi

I'm looking forward to reading and hearing in detail, in the days and weeks to come, about Hardwicks plans for the team.

We have put into place some really exciting leadership with Gale & Hardwick and my gut feel is that at the very least these guys will be integral to greatly improving our club with the support of our highly achieving Board.

Obviously most of us are limited in our knowledge from the outside and none of us have crystal balls, but I want to enjoy and savour these times. There is no shame in failing if you have tackled things intelligently and with positivity and loyalty.

I think at a time like this it's important to pay big thanks to the Board and Steven Wright for the hard work they have put in to make our club attractive again to coaching candidates. It would have been no fun deciding between Brian Royal & David Bourke for our coach.

Let's support the club with the same positive focus on the future the club has and finally put the past behind us. Obviously we cannot truly do that until we see the results out on the field, however I just feel there is no point on continuing to sniff the spilt milk.

We don't need to overhype things and talk about finals and such nonsense. We just need some good ole fashioned loyalty, trust in each other, positivity and hard work. If we can do that the success will come. GO TIGES! Let's get the MCG rocking again and start to hear the gutteral growls from Punt Road directed outward, instead of inward for a change.

P.S: Getting a new Coach to replace the Wallace regime was a fantastic birthday present for me this weekend. :hihi

Hypoxic has spammed DD's username ;D

Seriously though we all have to get behind the club and we will become what we once were. Feared.

Hardwick is a good appointment via an appropriately extensive selection process but he is not a miracle worker.
The list depth is still the worst in the AFL and we start the rebuild behind the Demons and Freo.
But at least we can now make a start.
That's the heartening aspect for me: finally the club joins the real world of AFL.
I have no expectations of finals for some years but I certainly feel better about the outlook than I have for ages.
Off-field is now sorted with largely good quality people in the right places; on-field can follow.
Go Tiges.

+1 Beavis

DD nailed it, the club has made some impressive steps in turning things around over the past month. Beavis was pretty clear that players who lack competitive spirit and squib the contest can best pack their bags. To be fair I think Francis has been working on this for the last couple of years getting high character guys like Jack and Chimp on board.

What is needed is for this to be the ethos for the whole team, that we don't drop our heads when things get tough, that we do the team things and run to support your mates when the ball turns over and that we improve the team's skill level. It will be a challenge bringing on young talented players with the draft weakened over the next few years, but we absolutely have to stick to the task and unify behind a long-term vision to restore the club not just to mediocrity but to genuine contention and sustained finals football.

Eat em alive!
(yep I'm fired up)

I've seen so many false dawns. I just hope that for once the coach is true to his word and actually does something about creating a team that can match it with the best in the competition.
