Millers Mindgames

I agree with Dean3!!! I've no issue with Miller's comments whatsoever.

As is suggested, the comments are entirely for our own benefit and are largely irrelevent to Collingwood. Whether or not it works is another matter but don't forget that Sheedy has made an art form of it at Essendon (think Marshmellow Wars and  Seagulls) and has achieved results out of it. Leigh Matthews has made similar comments which ultimately proved the spark that drove Brisbane to their last 2 premierships (If it bleeds, you can kill it!)

A little verbal argy-bargy is better than the sterile *smile* we're forcefed now!
sheedy made those comments because he had the runs on the board and the team to back him up.
like i said we need to get our own backyard in order 1st in which i believe we will do.

Actually, the marshmellow comments came about because of the perception that the current team of Bombers were soft (which they were!) At that point in time, they weren't travelling altogether that well.

The only credibility that Sheedy was trading on was that he'd won the premiership 5 or so years earlier with a much different list.

The Sheedy and Matthews teams had the balls to back it up. The last we saw of the Richmond team it certainly didn't.
Here's hoping the 2003 version does.

Guys, Miller's dislike of Collingwood goes way back to his days as North Melbourne/Kangaroos CEO.

If memory serves me correctly, in the late 1990s he liked to have a go at the Magpies for their (then) lack of on-field success, while North were playing in Grand Finals.

Cheers   :)

not to mention regular appearence,s in the finals.something we havnt been able to do for 20yrs.
there is a time and place for comments made by miller this time its not one of them.
dont get me wrong i believe miller will be great for the club and some players will findout even before the end of the year what miller is there for.

I agree with Dean.

All Miller said was that they dont respect us - which I beleive is the truth. Speak to most non-richmond supporters and they will laugh at richmond. The sad fact is that the league has no respect for us - Miller is merely stating the truth. And the sooner the players realise this the better. This will hopefully spark up their ego's.

Gaining respect was one of the themes richmond was playing with in 95 which produced our most exciting year in 23 yrs. I can remember our banner which read "It's time to gain respect" against West Coast at Princess park that year when we blew them out of the water. We did't just play good that game we played like a team full of confidence and a team the league can respect.

I have no doubt that the majority of Collingwood have no respect for Richmond, but that would be because they are arrogant wankers mor ethan anything else.

But why not give them a bit of lip service. Some of their players may worry about that comment and not concentrate on the game. Any little thing that may give us even 1% advantage - take it.

That is one area that we have really missed in the past. A ballsy administrator in the vain of Graeme Richmond. The attitude of us against them which was fostered by GR and Tommy Hafey worked a treat. Get it back.

This rebirth, if you like to call it, has to start from the top. Obviously it is now up the players to back it up.

Love ya work Greg, give Collingwood something else to worry about after 2 GF defeats and the loss of several players for tonights game.

A "Greg Miller led recovery"

And another thing about Miller is that he appears to be a harsh man who won't tolerate poor performances. I like this.

For far too long we have had coaches and supporting staff who have been too soft on our players - hopefully Miller will change this.

A classic example was when Robert Walls insisted we were a top 4 team on talking footy after we were hammered by ess and adel by over 100 point in previous weeks.

I for one want to hear the truth from RFC. When we lose badly i want to hear them say - "This was pathetic and unacceptable" instead of hearing crap like "Yeah Nah look, Adelaide are a quality side and we were really blown out of the water early, however I took a lot of positives out of the game, I would have thought, yeah". If I hear this garbage again I will throw up.

Its time to get real tigers.

It's interesting that the two Collingwood people to respond were former Tiger players. Feeling a touch guilty are we? His comments have definitely distracted Collingwood 24 hours before the game. Miller definitely hates Collingwood but hey don't we all ;).

Comments like that are a risk- If we lose we'll look like idiots; if we win Miller will be classed as the football genius everyone knew he was.

I agree with Deano. The comments were also directed at the players. We've talked about getting respect all summer and now the time has come to deliver.

I agree with Dean3. The comments were aimed at the players not Collingwood. I think these comments will ring in a few players ears at the end of the year if last nights performance is anything to go by.

Like it or lump it MILLER has been proven to be pretty right in his comments hasn't he. Hard to gain respect when we play like that.

if this was Millers first mistake at Richmond I would be curious to know what the count is upto at the moment for Miller Mistakes???

Does anyone really believe that any club in the competition has respect for Richmond. We have the worst finals record for the last 20 years. We have the worst recruiting record, we hire over rated coaches who can’t perform. And our finances leave a lot to be desired. (How in the hell can we be in debt?)
I thought it was good that someone finally came out and fired a few shots at another club. Shame that the players couldn’t back it up at the time.
I wonder if Miller has any respect for Spud? :p

Geez this was dug up a while ago, some of the edits were in 1970!!
And Dean and Harry agreed with one another !!!
