Maurice Rioli Jnr

He’s still a baby young Maurice, he is just not quite there as a finished AFlLfootballer. I think the club would be really happy with where his footy is going. There is every reason to believe that by around the start of he 2024 season, as a 21yo, he will be a highly valued and permanent fixture in our team. He is coming from a relatively rustic footy background and is only about a season and a half into his time at Richmond. Still so much to learn, but he will get there, and could be anything yet. Every chance we see him again this season as well.

Why not make him Medi-sub..???
Hate to see any kid as sub, much better for them to play, the more the play the better they get, The Edwards, Parkers, and Arts are much better as subs, never going to get any better so if wasted on the bench for the hole game is no great loss for the future.

This kid just has to play from the start. It’s no coincidence he changes the way we play and look when he comes on.

Love his new look and his body shape is coming along nicely. Be great for his development to play the rest of the year with a 50/50 mix of forward line and or wing/on ball. Has tools to be extremely damaging as link player

I think we are laying him the right way. Impact. Geez his skills are super tidy. Footy brain. Going ok.

He looks like he is bursting at the seams for more responsibility and more licence to use his magic. Chasing can only give you so much satisfaction after a while. Should swap with Pickett on wing/up forward during the game

Think his tank is the issue right at the minute … a half is perfect for maximum impact. Geez he is lightning quick and it sticks out like dogs nuts when he comes on the ground.

This. People calling for Rioli to be in the 22 are assuming the output they see when he comes on is what you will get for a whole game. I’m with you. Couple more preseasons and that will be true but not quite yet.

Yep. His speed wont stand out so much early in the game, and his (currently) limited offensive impact will stand out more.
As exciting as he was he had 3 disposals in a half.

The VFL team have 2 more games, it wont hurt him to play both.

Maybe, but it means we're relying on an injury for him to even get on the field in the first place.

Makes us a lot more dangerous roaming up the ground, puts the heebie-jeebies into opponents.

That's a valid theory 8ty.
Maurice's current high pressure role is a very hard one to sustain for a full game week to week.
Despite the low possession numbers, he's certainly having a big impact coming on as the sub as others are tiring.
Was buzzing around like a mosquito on heat vs the Brions in that 2nd half & provided a much needed point of difference that helped turn the game.
Particularly instrumental in the chaos play that resulted in the mark & goal to Lynch late in the 3rd term.
It's a tricky one for mine. Playing him from the start of the game could be a weapon but it could also end up being weakness by game's end.
