Maurice JNR

Wikipedia states that the WA clubs access rights to father/sons from the WAFL have expired.

I’m concerned,however, that the 2017 AFL Draft Guide states that The WA clubs still have access to WAFL father/sons.
There is no mention in there about these rights having expired.

I think we need clarification from the AFL about this.

Have they changed the rule and Wikipedia not caught up?

Mj will be playing for Richmond if he is good enough to play for Richmond

His father played for Richmond at the highest level , He didnt play for fremantle - Freo means nothing to the Rioli's
MJ Is a Richmond supporter and will want to play for the team he supports
MJ will be living & Studying at Scotch next year and will be intouch with Daniel & Cyril all the time when he is not at school
MJ will be around the club & Daniel on a regular basis

Who the hell is freo ? Perth is just as far from Tiwi Islands as Melbourne is and MJ has no affiliation to Fremantle at all

Agreed Turk I couldn’t see him going anywhere else either.

I’d still like to know exactly what’s happened to the alleged expiration date for the father/son rule though.

Can you link a source to an afl document that supports your view. I have tried but cannot find one.

I can see there was a 20 year rule that was removed. This 20 year rule applied to the 20 years prior to freo entering the comp. ie 1975 to 1995.

I can't find anything relating to expiration of their rights 20 years post entering the comp. ie 2015.

here is the latest official document i can find:

http://s.afl.com.au/staticfile/AFL%20Tenant/AFL/Files/AFL%20Rules%20-%202015.pdf

clause 8.2 deals with father son for interstate clubs:

(ii) The Fremantle Football Club may include a person on its Primary List if
that person’s father played 150 or more Senior Matches (being either
home and away or finals series matches) at one of the following clubs
prior to, but not including, 1995:
(A) South Fremantle Football Club;
(B) East Fremantle Football Club;
(C) Perth Football Club; or
(D) Swan Districts Football Club.

Doesn't seem to be anything regarding a cut off time for eligibility of the interstate clubs getting F/S selections from the state leagues teams. Seems to be an arbitrary cut off twenty years after said club was established, but there's nothing officially written in the AFL rule book.

Nothing official in the AFL rule book? Sounds like the clash guernsey nonsense.

The first point is unequivocally correct. Does Taz have to hire a satellite and put it in lights space? "MRJ is RICHMONDS'"

The second point is not correct. When researching Maurice's boxing career, I spoke with his son Gavin. He has two sons - one is a mad tiger, one is mad Freo. He loves them both.

re first point: there are numerous newspaper articles saying Freo do have father son rights to MRJ, so I am just looking for the actual rule that supports Taz's view that their rights have expired

re second point: yes I have heard that MRJ is a tiger fan and would love to join Daniel at Richmond, so most likely a moot point whether or not Freo have rights

The difference between the Journo's and Taz is

1. The journo's drink heaps of *smile* while they are at work; and

2. Taz is correct.

Considering news articles continue to point it out, and the rule you qouted Ice, I think you're right.

Another article on news.com.au saying Freo are keen on him, do they have any idea? However it does say that Junior will be boarding at Scotch College (Melbourne) next year.
