Matildas

Stepdaughter at the game. She's in a $15 seat described as 'restricted view'. Hasn't seen any of the 7 goals so far. D'oh!
Maybe she should have stopped taking selfies n watched the game instead :peepwall :flush think it might b time to run away n hide.

The data is a little flawed if you drill down in it.
This is the last post I can see from jb03 and hasn't logged on for over a month? Does anyone know if everything OK with him? Hopefully just on an OS trip or something.

Hopefully all OK jb?

Feel free to start a thread about racism where this "double standard" can be discussed. This is the Matildas thread, where personally I would like to engage in posting about the Matildas and the upcoming Olympics, which they have qualified for.
Me too. Are they a medal chance without Kerr? Do the women rate an Olympic medal in soccer?

I reckon women rate the Olympics highly- alongside the world cup- cos, unlike the men, the best players in the world play.

And yes, we are stil a decent shot for a medal, winning might be a bridge too far. it will be very interesting to see how Heyman goes against opposition better than Uzbekistan.

I don’t mind Gustavsson going. Seemed like he was running thin on ideas.
Maybe some unrest within the players? they seemed a bit jaded.

You don't rate him Ant? Was 4 years enough?

No, he had good players at his disposal but whenever we came up against tough and well-organised opposition we always came up short. You could say we overachieved at the WC in Australia last year where we made the semis by beating France on pens, but as soon as we met a strong England midfield it was game over.

No real discernable philosophy or approach comes to mind with Gustavsson's Matildas.

You may well be correct but I can't come at the players all piling on him now that he has gone. Sounds like they are trying to absolve themselves of any responsibility for the poor performances.

Private planes, people carrying their bags, demanding separate rooms; drinking their own bathwater. Hubris galore. Sound like overhyped prima donnas. Reckon Robbie Slater is spot on in his assessment.

Saw that this morn. Old mate Slater has had himself a fair old launch at the Tillies. There's always two sides to every story, but *smile* there's been a massive couple of years of hype regarding this team from what can only be regarded as reasonable performances.

I havent seen any comments of Gustavsson from the players- disappointing if true.
But in reality we are playing to about our level- especially without our best player.
Zambia was a bit of a *smile* show, but the US and Germany are strong- stronger than us and should beat us.

We have some of the best players in the world, but our depth isnt there. Our best striker (without Kerr) is a 38yo who retired 10 years ago. And our bench players are average (at the very elite level.)

As for the glamour- plenty of sporting superstars enjoy the high life. It is only ever an issue when they dont win.

Haven't read all that yet but doesn't sound great TBF.

I think Slater is generally correct in his assessment of how good we are right now.

I read about the internal report - the players are right to say that there was no cohesive game style when we had the ball.

We've been relying on the counterattack game for the last four years and this is the sign of a poor side with pace and some good forwards.

I should know, my Over 45s team plays that style and we are shizen

So much homophobia and misogyny on social media re Sam Kerr’s announcement she’s having a baby with her fiancé. We have gone backwards as a society.
