I was suprised.

I thought quite highly over him before the draft. He is a player I have seen a fair bit of in recent years. Comes from Albany where I live, and plays for Claremont, who I watch a fair bit of.

Might be cinsidered a bit small, but a very big build on him, 181cm, 86 kgs.

Smooth mover.

Given his skill level and the shallowness of the draft you have to question how he interviewed.

Nothing against Edwards, but he looks like better version.
185cm 82kg and moves nicely!!

Not sure about the height there Zips.

He looked small by WAFL standards, and I was suprise to see Claremont had him listed at 181 cm.

Could have grown I guess.

He is 181 cm and 81 kg at the Draft Camp. He might suffer from the fact that we have collected a few of his type in Ellis, Morris and Arnot this draft period.

Would have to be extremely lucky to snag him seeing as GWS can take up to 6 players in the PSD and still has to fill its rookie list in the rookie draft.

pretty sure i read somewhere "could b wrong though" that GWS havent decided whether they will take any players in the PSD...anyone else read that? anyways we'll know soon enough...

When do they have to indicated whether they will be participating in the PSD?

Correct.

They don't have to use any of their PSD picks but they have up to the first 5 selections if they choose to use them.

Changed to reflect that GWS can choose to use the first 5 picks of the PSD

Looks like Leon Davis will get paid more playing in the WAFL opposed to what Port are offering him due to their financial difficulties.

If so, Port likely to take McCarthy in the PSD which might give us 1st crack at an undrafted rookie depending if GWS get involved in the PSD.

They don't. You get as many picks as you have list vacancies (as long as you have the cap space to accomodate the players you choose). They can choose to pass.

I think that they get pick 1, and then their other picks will be tacked on the end.

1. GWS
2. Gold Coast
3. Port (Davis or McCarthy?)
4. Richmond (McCarthy)
5. Dogs
6. Fremantle (Dawson)
7. GWS
8. GWS
9. GWS
10. GWS
11. GWS

That was a very misleading article from a journo who was making stuff up. The salary cap in the WAFL is $211k total for next year. Even at minimum wage he will earn $100-150k in the AFL if he plays 20 games. The suggestion is probably that a $60k a year job as a 'barman' or 'consultant' and $30k in the WAFL is more tempting to him.

Average salary in the AFL these days is over 200k. I wouldnt expect to land McCarthy for less than that. Dont know how they could knock back Davis and then snare McCarthy if they dont have that sort of money

Good point but maybe they are just using financial difficulties as an excuse to lower Davis's price. Still I would be really surprised if they pick McCarthy if he is adamant he doesn't want to go there. Maybe he's not so against the idea?

Peter Rohde: "So if we call your name out you are going to sit-out of football for year and play in the suburbs? Or you are going to come over and play dead and have no any chance of another contract at any club?"

JMac: "Well, of course not."

Peter Rohde: "Exactly"

I`m pretty sure when players nominate for the draft they aren`t allowed to say they won`t play for a certain club.

They can nominate a certain salary they want, but if they start telling clubs they won`t play for them then that would be classed as draft tampering.

JMac: Then I assume you will have no issue paying me $250K per season.

If we really want McCarthy, we offer him 350 over 2 years and that's enough to knock out Port.
But is he worth that much? I don't think so.
