Seem to recall Frawley "inheriting" some players and looking good early in his coaching career as well.
Yes agree.

Ever stuck a slightly dried out roll in the micro for ten seconds just to refresh it a bit?GoodOne said:Sure is. I guess the question being asked though, was Thompson influential in Geelong's success, or does Scott's performance this year prove otherwise?

Yeah, that's kinda the point I was trying to make. No matter what I think of him, he's still a dual premiership coach.SCOOP said:Kind of like being the poorest billionaire.
Outrageous statement.
Built the club from ground up.
He did have a great Pres and CEO, but I agree; outrageous assertion.SCOOP said:Kind of like being the poorest billionaire. Outrageous statement. Built the club from ground up.

I still think a better coach would have left the Cats with 3, maybe 4 premierships instead of the two he left them with.

The culture we have in Vic footy makes it almost impossible to get out of a job in a clean, up front way. Unlike NRL, where coaches/players make announcements during the year, we consider people incredibly disloyal if they leave for better money/lifestyle...
I have no probs with what Thompson did when he exited Geelong.

Geelong improved the minute he walked out...
Probably the biggest mistake RFC ever made . His record at Collingwood, Geelong and the Swans suggests we would have never got ourselves in the situation we did in the 80's if he was a 20 year coach for us , which he should have been . Players would not have gone because they would have been loyal to Tommy . Graham Richmond presided over our greatest triumphs and then presided over our greatest failure .davesexton said:To put Tom Hafey's amazing record into context...Coached from 1966-1976 and the Tigers won 173, lost 70 with two draws. Four flags and GF in 1972, PF's in 1971 and 1975.
In retrospect, how on earth was he given the 'lemon and sarse' after one failed season in 1976 given the last 30-odd years?
