Lynch has a contract that starts low and increases over the length of the contract. Martin has a contract that is front end loaded. So as Martin's contract reduces Lynch's increases. So we will have two players taking up about $1.75m to $2m for the next 5 years. Approximately what the salary cap increased for this year.
There would have been a salary cap squeeze at some point regardless of getting Lynch or not. We will not be able to match big offers for free agents like Ellis. However if the free agents stay for less money then the pressure to keep the "kids" will increase.
But it has to be part of our system. Draft in good quality kids, put the development into them. Then keep the really good ones and trade out the others for picks, which we then use to upgrade our normal picks. Then we rinse and repeat by drafting in more good quality kids.
