Tigers are currently lacking leadership. They are going though the motions and not stepping up when they need to take the game by the throat. Is it worth looking at going after a ready made captain in the trade period. Someone who not only can play footy but show the team how to be ruthless and demand success

Re: Leadership

After seeing Judd at Carlton and Ablett (apparently) at Gold Coast fail to leave a legacy, I'm not sure this is the way to go. All was well when they were fit and firing; now all seems lost. We need to find and develop our own leaders from within. Maybe we don't have the right raw material, or maybe our development's not up to scratch.

Bingo. The Judd/Ablett even Cousins "Messiah Complex" in regards to leadership has proved to be fools gold.

Re: Leadership

Put Jack and Rance straight into the leadership group and drop Morris...

people used to be just as shocked, gobsmacked, maddened, disappointed and repulsed that Dan Jackson was in the leadership group.

Re: Leadership

Good presser by Chaplin today.

For those wanting his head I actually believe he has been solid and is far from our worst problem ATM.

Re: Leadership

I do wonder whether Cotchin's development as both player and leader has been *smile* by taking it on so early - imagine if he had a Hodge-like figure leading him at the moment.

Re: Leadership

What the hell is the much touted Gerard Murphy (ex leading Teams) doing for his consultant's fee? Preseason all I heard was that he worked miracles at Geelong and was having a big impact at Punt Road. Our leaders have gone missing!

Re: Leadership

Jacko and Jake were very good leaders, we are missing them. Without their injuries they would have played a few more years, especially Jacko.
If Axel hadn't been crucified with injuries he may well have been made Captain, from what you hear and read he has always been a great trainer, and at his best was a very good player.

I think Newy should have been allowed to retire but with Jacko and Jake retiring I'll cut the club some slack for asking him to go another year.

Re: Leadership

Leadership group should be Rance, Cotchin, Deledio, Maric, Riewoldt & future captain Vlastuin

Scrub Cotchin, Delidio and Vlastuin. Rance as Captain, Maric & Jack as VC.

This leadership group pizzazz is a crock of bs.

At the end of the day, you have a Captain and a Vice Captain/s, they are the one's that
should be telling it like it is on the field or the change room.

Having a whole committee room running around the joint gets no one anywhere.
Richmond struggle on the field because they don't have the necessary leadership on the
field in the first place. There's a lot of finger pointing at Richmond but not much in the
way of taking the job on head first and getting the job done whatever way is necessary
to do it.

Probably everything you believe he is. Cultural change is a long slow process. We probably won't see benefits for another 12-18 months. That doesn't mean there won't be any, just that they'll be subtle and probably only tangible to those involved on a day to day basis. Even then, some of them will miss it.

Correct General, I was going to point out that Murphy worked throughout 2007 in their Premiership year, it's not an instant process

Re: Leadership

Leading teams is only as a good as the cattle you have got to work with.

Geelong had a fair sort of base, Ablett, Ling, Bartel, Selwood, Stevie J, Chapman, Scarlett, Enright, Corey, Mooney, Milburn, Ottens, Stokes, Mackie, Harley.

Leadership

Who are effective leaders at our club? I don't see many. Lots of rhetoric trying to appease the fans and its all so transparent. Not much leadership on the field and not much off it. It takes more than saying "we've got to be men", you actually need men, not talk and I don't think we have them.

Re: Leadership

The pies have announced their going to come out all guns blazing, 'i say good ', the more feral the better, we'll find out Richmond's mettle very early in the game. If we don't run out seeing red from the first bounce then it's going to be a long day.
