This is the first season I can remember that I am glad to live in Qld. Attended one game for the year, that was the Bummers when we won. My wife and sons first game at the G was a Tiger victory and this confirmed my sons allegiance to the Tiges. Before the game he wanted to follow the Power and i was gonna allow it to save him years of pain. the win brought him back.

Dont know what to tell him next year when we are horrible again

There is no reason why we shouldn't be higher up the ladder than we are. We certainly have enough talent to finish in the 8 - 13 range, but through ineptitude of our fitness and conditioning, our previous coach copying and pasting everyone else's game plans, we've absolutely stunk it up.

......

Dark days ahead, thanks to messrs Wallace and Miller.

I don't get that. If we've got the talent to finish 8-13 but missed a higher spot due to dodgy game plans and poor conditioning I don't see why we'll have dark days ahead. A new coaching panel will bring a new game plan. We'll improve on our list. I certainly hope we'll address fitness and conditioning.

Let the sun shine in. 8)

Expected we would miss the finals, so certainly not suprised by that. However, thought we would be better than what we have shown.

At least the flaws have not been papered over this year. And it seems that unlike previous years, the powers that be have not stuck their heads in the sand.

Quite easy.

Our best players are all around 30. They are due to head off soon. With them at their best, and a few of the younger guys stepping up, we would have been around the 9th spot again.

The 30 somethings are about to depart, so we're going to rely on a bunch of kids that haven't been developed properly. We aren't going to be getting decent draft picks, unless we trade something of value in return to the gold coast or sydney, so we're likely going to be stuck around the middle of the ladder for the next few years.

I disagree on this.

One thing I liked about this season compared to Spud's final year is that it has been the younger guys usually winning us games. Deledio, Tambling, Jackson, and so on have been our better performers.

Simmonds, Brown, Bowden, Johnson, failed to provide any week in week out quality for various reasons, Richo was injured for much of the year, and Cousins too a while to get into gear.

General, I agree with your sentiment. Good news, you will get your wish in a way, we play Friday night so our season will be "over" sooner rather than later. Of course it was over in Round 1, I was there and reckon that will go down as the most painful and disappointing night at the footy ever.

Why not look at what the current board has actually achieved?
To be honest, what have they achieved. They were part of the last administration that oversaw the growth in debt.
They were also party to the five year term appointment of Wallace.
They oversaw a gradual clawback of some of the debt, although some of the money booked as profit included government grants for upgrades.

I can't see any outstanding achievements? The recruiting process has declined, we haven't moved anywhere on the ladder, we play poor standard games, our playing and coaching group have no respect from the football fraternity... what has the board achieved in five years?
Leadership should provide a vision, and deliver results, not excuses.

IIRC March came on the Board after the appointment of Campbell which saw the debt blow out. He was there for Wallace's appointment but that was Casey's appointment. The Board as an entity was not what it was back in Casey's time.

The current Board's achievements? Reducing debt, excellent financial performance, profits being put back into Football Dept resources where needed, bringing stability back to the club, being decisive when they had to re Miller and Wallace, bringing good governance to the club eg. the coaching appointment, the Craigieburn facility, the redevelopment of Punt Road and the new indigenous centre. The last points display vision.

Hopefully this improved governance will at last flow through to the football dept with the coaching appointment and the improvements in development and recruiting. Its been given every chance to.

i was thinking the same thing when i seen we were playing this friday night.
only 4 more sleeps and it`s all over!

It certainly has been a long slog the last 22 weeks -

Friday night will spell the end of 23 weeks of despair for us dyed in the wool Tiger fans/supporters/members

I will be back paying my Interstate Membership next year and be cheering loudly as I watch the Tigers on Fox Footy - one just can't break the habit of a lifetime that easily.

I just wish/hope/will the Tigers to give me a decent run for my money in 2010.

That was my one & only Tige's game this year to tb.

Keep encouraging your boy.Hopefully he see's a Richmond flag in his lifetime... :)

It's hard to disagree with comments like 'worst year ever etc' but there is an up side.

In the late 80's early 90's I thought things were much darker.

The club was broke and couldn't possibly compete for better players in the comp, or afford things the richer clubs had eg facilities, football dept spending etc. Basically the club was in terrible shape in every way.

This was probably the case again in the later 90's and early 2000's at times too.

But in recent years we have made great inroads off field.

Good profits in recent years and record memberships ( which is hard to do when not winning ) plus a real stability at board level and in administration. Also the Punt rd redevelopment and Craigiburn. In 12 months we will have proabaly the best facilities in the comp. Plus we are now able to compete with all clubs financially. So our newly formed coaching and football department with have every opportunity to do what they need to do to build a winning football team.

So yes we are down and out now, and yes it is hard to see positives, but I hope that it is the football team itself that is the last thing our club needs to get right. And by sticking to out coaching selection precess and all the other points I have mentioned, we are laying the foundations for success. It will happen.

It’s over, done and dusted for me and my 10 year old.

No more contemplative drives home from the G or that other killin ground scarf flapping from the car window like some flaccid *smile*. No more scanning that membership card in vain, no more dropped chest marks, sitting duck handballs or handballs to imaginary team mates that only the sender can see, no more “pick up that man” pointing (has anyone ever seen as big a bunch of “pointers” as the tiges?), no more high 5’s when a late futile goal is finally kicked, no more backwards side ways kicking, no more sand wedge short passes, no more shirking responsibility in front of goal, no more watching opposition faces light up as the ball goes sailing through the punt rd goals from the boot of the enemy, no more crazy arsed turn overs, no more counting sea gulls in flight from M1 as the game grinds on and on and on, no more mcmahon, edwards, polo, brown, tuck, simmonds, king, shultz, tuck, patterson, pettifer, hughs, mortin, oakley whatever, johnson, no more of any of that for at least a few months, .... if our lucky numbers come in, forever!
no more no more no more….

The only thing I’ll miss is that blind pre-game optimism one can’t help but feel and kicking the ball over smoking heads with my son outside the ground during each break.

Like a jilted lover I’ve had enough. And no amount of pre-season “shamwow” from punt rd is gunna snag this catfish like it did last year.

Until round 1, 2010, farewell you pack of useless yellow & black imposters.
And for christ sake develop some skills and put on some weight!

Roll up your sleeves, find your wallets and purses and get on with supporting the tigers turn things around.

For those feeling like a jilted lover, take another look at it...

Imagine it is your best friend or offspring, whom while not approving of their life choices, you will always be there for and support in times of need.

Harden the hell up people.

1 of the best posts i`ve read. :clap

i can understand a lot of those feelings you describe, especially "that blind pre-game optimism one can’t help but feel".
i`ve fallen for that week in week out, year after year but it is starting to extinguish itself.

"And no amount of pre-season “shamwow” from punt rd ".
this gets me every year too.
all the usual stuff about our young list finally maturing and a past great saying "oh the feeling around the club reminds me of pre-season 1967 or 1980" etc.etc.

or so and so reminds me of a young royce hart/michael roach.

but i do like what jack had to say about the late 80`s early 90`s.
we were in a terrible position on AND off the field, this time it`s mainly on.
off the field in terms of money and facilities being built we are flying.

there is hope, but our draft picks must be spot on this time or we will be mired in sh!t for at least another 5 to ten years, with gold coast and west sydney owning the draft from next year.

but whatever happens i`ll still be there buying a membership and turning up.

Its a long hard road ahead for us tiger faithful, the question is are you going to take it or be a whinger and make everyone else carry you ?

I am excited to see what either Hinks or Wicks can deliver.
