Judd- Captain

so i guess he should of stuck around at the eagles even though he didnt want to and try and solve the problems that started 10 years before he arrived at the club

cant blame him for leaving

A leader would have stuck around or at least tried to address the issue at the time he was looked up as the player leader of the club. He did neither. He did the right thing by himself and only himself and left, mentally during the season, and physically at the end. Not the act of a leader though. He has too many people fooled that he is a great leader because he is a great footballer. Not the same thing.

He certainly wasn't the Weagles 'spiritual' leader.. :police:

How do you know he didn't try to address the issue behind the scenes?

I had this discussion with the brother in law, a filthy blue. I told him it was like getting a car, you took a shell, spent time on it, built it up, spent money of course, and then you had something you could look at with pride and respect.
Or you could let someone else do the work, then buy it from them.
Chris Judd is just a flash car someone else built up.
Brownlow medallist, sure. But not for Carlton
Premiership player, but not for Carlton, now or ever.

Die filthy scum.

Well I can't say for sure can I. Results speak for themselves though. Whether he tried or not the outcome was a sign of poor leadership. If he tried he gave up easily.

Best footballer doesn't equate to captain material.

Have a look at the rabble he left when he was captain of West Coast. This was under Judd's leadership - a pretty poor credential. Instead of stepping up to lead the club out of its time of turmoil he fled. He is the antithesis of real leadership. He is the epitome of a self involved individual.

He did not want to be captain at WC because he was leaving. THis was conveyed to them the last time he signed a contract by both he and his manager. He reluctantly took the captaincy and WC buried their head in the sand again and hoped he would change his mind at the end of the year. He did not and then left.

WC got to look all aghast in the media by the shock of it but Connors (his manager) told them when he was drafted that he would want to return home well before his career was over. THis came up 2 years ago and JUdd and Connors told WC privately that he would most likely be leaving when the contract was up.

WC chose to ignore this information and guilt him into the captaincy and then pretend to be shocked when he wanted out.

Carlton won out of the deal but WC got a reasonable return but they might have planned better for it happening if they actually listened about it.

Not sure Judd could have helped with the problems at WC. He is an immaculate hard training bloke who hates all the publicity and is not the most verbose of players. He sets his example in games and out on the track at training. He is not going to organize blokes lives and social events and threaten anybody about their behaviour. He is a quiet guy who is fairly private and does his own thing.

The problems at WC are bit going to be changed by a captain. You think anyone would have changed Cousins, chick and others behaviour?

They are veteran players with strong personalities. It needed a group of players and the entire match commitee and some board members to be able to do anything influential. Not 1 player.

Judd is obviously a brilliant footballer, but from afar he does not inspire me as a leader of footballers. My observations of Judd are of a very self contained individual who prefers to avoid the spotlight and keep away from football in general (which there is nothing wrong with). I can see players admiring his football ability, but will the players want to bleed for/run through a wall etc for a captain like Judd. Do the players feel like they have a captain who eats and breathes carlton and want each of his mates to win....from afar that is not the impression I get.

From a football perspective leadership at Carlton will be much more challanging than the Eagles, so we will wait and see.

He is down to earth and the players love him at Carlton from what I have been made aware of. He is such a hard trainer and does everything spot on and sets the example and has no ego around the place. The list is young and is impressionable and he has a big influence over the young players.

He does not like the spotlight and is not a good public speaker and does not inspire people when he speaks in public. But behind closed doors the players listen to him and he is a different person.

Let's say for a moment that you loved your club and had worked hard for your contract and team. In comes a guy that not only gets offered 2 times + your salary but also made captain of your team without ever having taken the field.
I know how I would feel.
Now put that scenario into an AFL club where there are some large egos with wind tunnels between their ears. The only reason the players might be happy is the belief that they will be playing successful finals in the next couple of years.
Sorry, not going to happen. :'(
Pratt, Judd and The Filth - A match made in hell.

Players voted on who they wanted.

Judd won in a landslide.

Could also be a bit of "work" at Visy to keep the natives quiet. Worked for Judd.

Or some help from management to get started on some property deals?

Players wanted Judd and so did the match committee. Stevens may respond with a very good year or sulk about it. Time will tell. Seems to be close to full fitness now and looks set for a good year and the neck is 100%.

Yep i put Stevens in my Supercoach team cos he is fit and cheap, but nows hes also got motivation.

Now he will be pissed and bust his arse to have a better year than Judd.

From what i hear he may quite possibly have a 3 - 6 week jump on Judd anyways.

Im not too convinced that Tiger fans will see Juddass at Round 1. ;)

good post

mojo with the goods once again

It's poor form to appoint a fella who has never played a game in their colours, has a massive injury question mark over his head, is a possibility to not start the season in round one. If I were Stevens I'd be more than pissed.

Then again, I assume the tigers would do a similar thing for a similar reason (I am assuming it was done to sell more memberships by giving the fans a whole lot of hope and dreams)
