Josh Caddy

I'm staggered he is still here, the relationship between Josh and the coaches was super toxic.

I hope it has been repaired. I heard Freo tried reasonably hard to get it done and Brisbane came in late but it never got anywhere.
His relationship with Dimma from an outside perspective seemed to crash and burn that night in Adelaide in 2020 where Josh's carry on and 100 metre penalties pretty much smashed the Tigers momentum and helped cost the Tigers the game after their comeback to hit the front.

Caddy was dropped the following week.

He has never seemed to win back Dimmas favor since that night.

Would not surprise to see a rejuvenated Caddy Next year.
I thought the same for 2021.

My guess is if he didn't have another year of his contract and if the salary cap was bigger, we may have let him go.

At least he's versatile so cab drop him in most holes if we have any next season

What could have stopped the deal?
I doubt the club wouldve knocked an offer from Freo or Brissy because it was only late draft picks.
We have form in trading out Miles, Butler, Higgins, CEllis, Markov, Lloyd all for chips. I'd guess we would do that again.

But maybe the other clubs wanted Richmond to pay the salary.
Maybe that's why we baulked?

Yep, if we are paying most of his salary we might as well keep him.

How do we know it was super toxic? With the whole group or just Dimma?.

What were the issue(s) that caused this?. Not suggesting its untrue or true, id just like more understanding as thats a definitive statement.

He wasnt always best 22 for cats when we picked him up, assume being in and out of team isnt fun, combined with being injured but would be surprised if he didnt understand his where hes at.

We did not use him as high forward in 2021 and (rightfully) tried the kids. I think his magnet will come into contention as the 30-35th player. Needs to stay injury free and play good VFL footy. An uninterrupted VFL program will be good for many players, for Caddy it will be fascinating to what role he is given that indicates what role he would be used for if selected in the seniors. Was good to hear Morris say we (VFL team) are here to ensure club success and develop and get ready players for senior football (paraphrasing). It seems he did not want away from Punt Road so 2022 will be interesting. He can play - but has his best now gone past him is the question.

Caddy was reported here as having personal issues , they weren't for general broadcast and they have been resolved , pretty sure it was one of our posters who gets a bit of inside intel

much was made about his attitude in the VFL and there was a highlights package from a Punt rd game , where a shot of him on a half back flank looking very disinterested , the play was on the Punt Rd side of the ground and stayed on that side , a loose player popped up at full forward and got an easy out the back goal ... yep Josh , he covered a serious amount of ground in no time flat , on reflection he was probably not wanting to draw attention to himself when he was out on the switch by himself
I think we are wrong to draw conclusions about his attitude from those brief clips , you'd have to have been at the ground and seen his body language at 1/4 & 3/4 time etc

he also had a series of soft tissue injuries just when injuries happened in the top side which have meant 2020 & 21 seasons were pretty much trashed

there's been no public declaration that he wanted out or that the club wanted him gone, but out side every clubs top half dozen , everyone else is a potential trade option/target, his current contract might have priced him out of the market

so lets see what the 2022 version of Josh Caddy can bring , a full preseason to refresh body and mind and some new assistant coaches and game plan tweaks no doubt
and a bunch of new talented youngsters just to keep everyone honest
and as an experienced senior player he will no doubt find himself mentoring some of the younger players

Hopefully he can rally, Scooper.

Hopefully he can rally, Scooper.
Just a snippet from his pre draft resume.
“Selling points are inside ball-winning skills (especially first possessions and hard-ball gets), core strength, attack on the ball and contest, intensity, competitiveness, work-ethic, hard running, defensive pressure, ability to play forward effectively.

“More brutally effective than classy, hits the ball at pace and is capable of a decent burst off the mark.

“Plays a predominantly inside style, uses the ball effectively by hand, capable of taking a good grab, decent by foot (depth and accuracy), considering a large proportion of his possessions are under constant pressure, comfortable using both sides of the body, too, hands generally clean, and looks a big-stage player (BOG v WA under-18s in the televised game at Skilled Stadium).

Hopefully he can rally, Scooper.
He played #1 inside mid for Geelong in 2015(?), gray. He was ok. They finished 9th. And moved him sideways. He's not useless.

There's an opening. Josh would have to get dirty. These days he thinks he's more classy than brutal.

Did Caddy hit training early like Jack G, Tom, Broady and other senior players? You'd hope so given what's on the line for him this year (or that there is a legitimate reason why he didn't).

Handy depth. But he wants go around after this year. Your 25-32 players shouldn’t be making 350k.
